Wizard's simple strategy

I suppose you could use it as a very basic start before mastering basic strategy, but to me, I fail to see the need to learn it. Basic Strategy is not that many situations beyond what this simple strategy teaches.

Use basic strategy. Print out a card and bring it with you. I had my BS chart with me in Vegas, no one cared. Actually, the first pit supervisor actually made sure I had the correct chart on me.

Print out both the S17 and H17 charts. Use the right one for the game. It saves you money.

Likely he wanted to make sure you were using the Basic Strategy for the one-deck game versus the multi-deck game. There are some differences in them that can make an impact between loss and profit. The basic strategy charts sold in casinos are based on the one-deck.

Actually I was thinking he was making sure that's all it was, a basic strategy card. Casino's are strange these days.:whip:...JtMM:cool:

Yeah, that's true. You are likely right. I've been doing quite a bit better using a multi-deck Basic Strategy when I found out I've been using the one-deck BS for so long. I believe most people out there in the casinos using BS do not realize they are using the wrong one.
 
Generic basic strategy

There are some basic strategy charts on my website for what I call generic basic strategy. The idea is to learn a single base strategy that applies for the most part to any number of decks. For multiple decks the loss in EV is very little using generic basic rather than total dependent basic strategy for a specific number of decks. Single deck loss is a little more but still is not that much.

In either case a player can learn the few total dependent exceptions to generic basic and apply them at his leisure, knowing that even without them he is playing an efficient basic strategy.

Actually, she asked me "is that a chart that takes into account that this is a shoe-dealt game where the dealer stands on soft 17?"

Which is precisely what the game was. So she wasn't trying to trick me (and if she did I'd have spotted it quickly).

And yes, it is true that many basic strategy charts sold in casinos are false. I printed mine out from the Wizard Of Odds' website.
 
I wasn't aware that the Wizard had something called "Simple strategy." So I went to his blackjack page to see what it is. I love the fact that, for no apparent reason, he has a picture of a girl in a bikini sitting at a blackjack table.

I don't think so. I haven't done a poll on this, but from the cards I've seen players use that were bought from the gift shop, it looks like these cards are based on the 6-deck game. (No stand on 77 vs. 7, for example.)
