Bad start to 2011

Just lost about 140 units in under 13 hours... -11 units / hour. Rough start. This is one of my biggest losses thus far. I am both motivated and discouraged simultaneously.
 
I know how you feel. Around July, playing with my cousin, I lost a bit over 200 units in a single shoe. Luckily, the next day, my cousin and I were able to recover about 160 units, which relieved the pain substantially :)

I am right there with ya, assume_R. I am off to a pretty crappy start in 2011. Haven't had any one big losing session though. Just 20 units here, 15 units there, adding up to a couple hundred units down. :( A far cry from the very fast start I encountered last year, but it's early yet. Things will turn around. :cool: (hopefully)
 
Thats not to bad. I was down 70 units in my first 4 hours of play this year. Ive since got it back and then some. It will turn around.
 
I always think it's more useful to measure in terms of big bets. Losing xx units may be a real bad beat if you're spreading 1-4, but a daily occurrence if you're spreading 1-50...

I too began my first 2011 trip by dropping 30% of BR in 5 sessions. Guess Jan 2011 was "not auspicious"....

Spreading 1-10 and 1-15 for different games. about 14 big bets in 13 hours. Not necessarily too bad
 
Just to put a little positive in this thread, I'm up 700U so far this year with about 50 hours of play, about 1/3 of which came yesterday.

Just kidding. I am glad you are doing well. It really is great to get off to a fast start. Last year I got off very fast, winning just over 2000 units in first 8 weeks. Does wonders for your psyche. :) I went on to lose 65 units over the next 38 weeks though, basically flatlining with a few up and down swings, before having a strong finish. That quick start made the 9 months in between so much more tolerable.
 
It's tough when it feels like you're the casino's personal punching bag. That kind of a loss, particularly over a short duration, feels like a blow to the gut and can literally take your breath away - I'm speaking from experience of course!

I have worked on various psychological countermeasures to the discouragement and anxiety that can ensue in these cases, and while I still struggle with it, I have found that such measures can be of assistance. For me, the military analogy is useful: You are like a soldier under intense artillery barrage; in this situation, the green recruit can easily break and rout, but it is the soldier's duty to endure and continue to fire his weapon; and the crack, veteran troops are able to carry out this duty without question or hesitation. Even they feel fear, but that fear is held in check by their superior training, experience, and mental toughness - as well as their overriding sense of duty and diligence. It is our duty to take it to the casino and punish them for offering games that can be beaten, and it's as simple as that.

HA! try down 500 units over 50 hours. about 10 straight losing sessions. small losing sessions, but they added up. now I'm at 60 hours and it all came back plus more. I got most of it back in a 30 minute window too! SHEEESH!!!

It can get much Worse

Keep playing year after year, and you will at some point run into a negative swing that will take 600 or 700 hours to recoup.

Yes. I have run many sims to see how bad or good it could be starting off.
On infrequent occasion, the sim shows ZERO net loss out of the starting gate and the bankroll
grows without ever being in the red. More often there are net loss periods starting off. zg
