I seek wisdom from the numerous counters here I am a new player that has got HI - Low pretty much down pat I sat down at a double deck shoe at EC and started playing,I bought in for 500 and started playing green chips I was playing two hands I was up 800 pretty quick when the pit boss toldme I could only play one hand and one green chip a hand,it freaked me out I just took my chips to the cage but I also felt a little pride have I arrived as a counter? Or do I have miles to go,I seek all your feedback and criticisms what did I do wrong, how can I improve?should I e er go back there?like I said I'm new be gentle lo.

Well, you certainly don't want to ever experience back-offs, but they'll inevitably happen, especially at places like EC that are just waiting for counters to show up. Betting green and spreading any sort of reasonable spread will get you heat on good DD games in many places. As the Japanese say, wash your face and try again.

If you flat bet and play all indexes right, your advantage is 0.02%. For you to gain 30 units in a short period of time, you were lucky that day. Since you don't spread, the PB should have left you alone.

Just about any newbie question you might have has probably been anwered many times already. Do a Search on El Cortez (or Sweaty Spaniard) and you'll find everything you need to know.

Bottom line, don't waste time playing there. The games are good, but if you can't play them to an advantage, what's the point?

1-3 is a weak spread on that game. And I agree that buying in for $500 there is asking for trouble. You can spread a fair amount on that game, but don't expect to put in any marathon sessions.

Really another player told to flat bet at E.C. Never thought that would happen.:violin:

I don't see why everyone is so hung up on that sweaty little hole in the wall.

With the rules and pen offered a 1-3 spread is just fine. I would go bigger myself, especially since the small spread will get you booted anyway. Although perhaps a larger spread would have gotten the OP tossed before he won his $800!
