3 New Casinos in AC 2010-2013

What's amazing is that what were once the best pen games in AC have now become the worst, at least, as long as this policy stays in force. I will have to travel around the city and see what you're so proud of, but before I began going to Borgata, nearly all else were H17 with mediocre pen, and largely 8-deck, whereas at the time, Borgata had all 6-deck. PM me where I can find these good pen games please, and preferably in 6-deck and S17.

Gamblor, it just seems like a downward trend when you see the best joining the rest, and you don't hear about or see any improvement in the rest. Has Penn pen gotten so poor, or is it just certain Penn casinos?

Two weeks ago it was good pen. Three/four days ago my buddy heard the pit critter instructing all the dealers to cut three decks. After I heard that I went to the 8-deck S17 pit to see for myself. I stood by one table and waited as the dealer shuffled, then cut three decks. I told her I would not play with three decks cut. She said she had to do what she was told.

As to whether it is every day, I can't say. It may be shift by shift for all I know. What I do know is that it was a deliberate policy, not an accident. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. It may be that they have been attacked by a slew of counters. Or it may be that they are just nickel and dime-ing customers because they are not as profitable as in years past. They laid off 55 pit/floor people a month or two ago, and they have been talking about charging for drinks, according to one employee I talked with. When the accountants get in charge, nothing is too stupid.

Bethlehem Sands and Mt. Airy had poor pen (2.5-3 decks cut out on 8 deck game) when I was at each back in December 2010. Harrahs Chester and Presque Isle are average (2-2.5 decks cut out/8 deck games). Hollywood is good as is River's in Pgh (1.5 to 2 decks cut out/8 decks). The best I've played are the six deck games at Parx (1-1.5 decks cut out/6 deck game). Have not been to Meadows or Pocono Downs yet.

I don't like to discuss pen so explicitly, but my experience has been different in PA, including some casinos you mention.

Did they change the pen for S17 only? That may be your answer.
 
It's funny how people in this thread were begging for an express train from NY to AC, and now that train service is there and people don't use it much. Just wish it had a few more stops: NY, Newark, Trenton, Philly, Cherry Hill, AC
 
Guys, go easy on Aslan. The Borgata was my favorite place to play for a long time as well. It had everything we could want. Good 6 deck S17 games even at the $5 table, great food, a good poker room, hot waitresses, great service, wonderful rooms, etc etc. Sadly, all good things come to an end. Greed has overtaken this country and will be our downfall.

I did not see three deck pen for any but the S17 8 deck. The H17 8 deck was better but hardly playable. The 6 deck which was unplayable two weeks before, was variable, and largely playable, The reverse was true of the 8 deck; two weeks ago it was playable. But because it is not H17 is not an answer-- NO 8-DECK GAME is playable (by card counting) with a three deck cutoff.

My guess is counters have ripped them to pieces whenever the pen was good, so their reaction is to punish everyone. Even the ploppies were complaining. "You're not giving us an equal chance to get the good cards, the aces and tens, by cutting out nearly half the cards, " they say. "Things don't have a chance to even out," they also say. Thank you. ploppies for your support! :toast: Even if you don't make any sense. :p

To drive away "a counter" you simply half shoe his games. This day they half shoed EVERY game, all ten of them or whatever the number is. But true, they are MSE, so presumably a counter could wong in. A sharp pit would simply call a reshuffle if he saw that going on. I was there; I didn't see that going on. If it was, speak up; the guilty party would probably be here. :laugh:

I was just thinking maybe this is some sort of way of switching to H17 by having no demand for S17 because of the half shoe.

I hear you, but I don't understand how deliberately running down a game results in a more favorable transition to H17. Ploppies will not think that H17 is better even if they give 90% pen. Ploppies either know that H17 is worse than S17, or they think they're not much different.

They have already transitioned most their games to H17 and 8 deck.

Playing here in the midwest, I listened to a ploppie explain to the dealer about how you had to be careful in Vegas because they had tables there where the dealer would stand on their soft 17's, greatly reducing the dealers chances of busting. You really had to watch out for those tables, he said, because that's how they get ya there.

I really, really wanted to chime in but feared looking like I might actually know what I was doing.

I'd say that ploppy is the exception that proves the rule. I know a lot of ploppies, but I never heard that one. At worst, the ones I know think that H17 is not that bad; they say they can play all evening sometimes without it ever hurting them, which is probably true.

You can't see them in the photo, but Revel didn't waste any time stocking that visitor's area with hats and T shirts for sale. You can be the first on your block...
