How NOT to get targeted and robbed?

Just a reminder, kewljason practiced minimal buy-in. This is just one component, but I agree, a good one, especially if you will have to walk somewhere susceptible to robbery. You might win big with that small buy in, negating the safety factor, and you might target yourself by giving too much information about yourself on some Internet bulletin board, as kj thinks happened to him.

Hey, I wonder if one of those exploding ink packets they use to thwart bank robbers works. On the other hand, I'd hate one to go off in my pants accidentally. smiley-shocked032.gif

I don't think it's the buy-ins that target you. The logical place to do this would be at the cage. The cages have the effect of condensing all the cash outflow to a limited area, and the robber or his accomplice can see if you are actually walking with cash, or covering a marker with your cheques. We are among the few people who are going to cash out for several K, put it in our pockets and walk out of the building and down the street alone, which is why I believe we are the biggest targets in the casino.

Ditto that about TARGETS. To avoid flashing of big pumkins, some smart APs cashed out in the highroller cage, ie. Borg, Bally's and Caesars' highroller cages are out of sights of robbers. On the other hand, some smarter APs just take home the chips ;). Warning: Don't hold onto your ACH chips. Cash in your ACH chips ASAP. I overheard its employees' conversations about ACH's closing down. ACH probably will give its employees the necessary 90-day notice in October because no buyer wants to buy ACH as of now. We will find out for sure by October about ACH's fate---closing down for good or not?
 
One thing is, you cannot hide the fact that you win big, at least, not in a split second. Also, in a plus count, you are betting your max bet, which presumably is more than most other players are betting. The chips are on the table; they attract attention; anyone wanting to know who the big winners are can quickly scan an entire pit in no time. Converting excess chips to larger denominations and pocketing them is one way to keep a lower profile. Normal rat-holing helps as well.

When I win a sizable amount, I am like my basic training drill instructor who had seen combat action. Years later, he still could not walk down the street without continually shifting his eyes and turning his head to check behind him. Talk about paranoia! But it is protective to be constantly aware of everything around you, 360 degrees around you. You can't take action to save yourself if you don't see it coming.

Also, someone mentioned a confident gait and a demeanor that says you aren't going to be an easy mark. Would-be robbers are constantly checking their intended victims for signs of weakness; don't show them any.

And it goes without saying, don't put yourself in compromising situations, like walking down a long, isolated corridor, or walking the Vegas strip or Atlantic City boardwalk at 4 am, or getting on an elevator with a couple of guys who look like thugs.

I hit for a large sum on a slot machine and took the cash. I was never so paranoid in my life as I walked to my car. I not a big player but always buy in as small as possible and rathole chips so my cash out is small at the table and am very aware of my surroundings at the cage and going to my car.
 
stairwell safety?

Sometimes I like to take stairs instead of the elevator. If in AC this maybe something to avoid? The stairwell can be dingy to begin with. Could be a place for some low life scum to wait for his next victim? Cameras? Guess it's safer to take the elevator? The thing I like about the stairwell is always being on the move.
 
Here is a quick "cautionary tale" I was robbed of some jewelry (cash / chips were in the safe) by a babe I bedded not long ago.

Security not only got her photos and I.D.'d her; they were able to give me the precise time that she had left my suite, as your door lock keeps an electronic record of every time the door is opened or closed (not locked / unlocked) !

Beware of Trojan horses in a elevator or anywhere else. Muggers love to pretend to be harmless panhandlers or just another gamblers. When they come close to you, BANG---they beat you up bloodily and rob you. Here's an example ( A Taj's winner got beaten up and robbed of $5,000 in a elevator):

When I did go to the Taj, I almost always went with a friend, although I never knew it was as bad as this thread has shown. But it stands to reason-- it is closer to the heart of the neighborhoods, and the parking lot is not connected, is it? We always walked a ways outside to get to the parking lot entrance.
