No doubt about it, EC is terrified of action. The game is good, but it's tough to win any significant money there nowadays, so I usually avoid it. However, it's worth stopping by for a look at the new cocktail menu!

In the old days I had several friends backed off without ever placing a bet. Just the way they were looking at the tables got them backed off.

I looked at their games the same way recently, but I managed to escape unscathed. However, I did play a MP for kicks and spread pretty hard on their DD game for two shoes... for nickels, of course (I was on vacation)!

Yes. I have taken five figures out of that place probably 10-20 times over the years, and have never once gotten ANY kind of heat at all.

The biggest mistake that the average card counter makes when he plays at the EC is that he utilizes too big of a betting spread. The games in that place (or anywhere else, for that matter) can easily be beaten by flat betting, if using one or some of the more advanced playing techniques. But that ALONE won't do it. You MUST be able to show them a good enough act. If so, you'll just about last forever in the El Cortez.
Perhaps he had a bit too much to drink that night? In the El Cortez, I've seen many a ploppy escorted out for this very reason, whether winning OR losing. (After all, you DID only hear ONE side of the story!) :laugh:

Because it is one of the better games in town. :laugh: I play about 3 times a month. (usually when I am in the area for other reasons, rather than specifically traveling to the game). Very short sessions. Spreading green to light black and have been backed off only once. Again, this amounts to only a very limited number of hands. Probably 5-600 per year. I would prefer to get more than that at this location, but I will take what I can get. No sense in skipping the opportunity altogether.
Also, EC, like most places has times that are a little better than others. You just gotta do some homework. I have identified a little bit of a 'sweet spot' (time and personnel that are a little more tolerant) If you ever decide to again grace this town that you despise so much, 21, I will be happy to forward that to you.

I'm glad you mentioned that you go there when you're in the area for other reasons, otherwise I would have commented on the inefficiency of traveling to a low-roller game you can only play for 15 minutes.

That reminds me of the Silverado where I was playing before I learned card counting. I was playing "mimic the dealer," that is, hitting everything 16 and below, and staying on 17 and above. I was winning for hours until it got to the point that I would miss my plane if I stayed any longer. It was one of the few times I ever won with this stupid strategy (I should call it stradegy, because it doesn't deserve the former designation). Anyway, I guess I was saved by the need to leave before I was ready.
