How much should you buy in with?

Say I'm using KO Prefered, 1-10 unit spread. How many units should I buy in with the first time I'm exchanging cash for chips?

I realize this is probably not a set figure, so let me know what you usually buy in for.
 
I typically buy in for 20 units. You don't want to buy in with a large amount and then start out betting small. You can always buy more chips whenever you want, and then it looks like you're steaming because you keep rebuying. It would be nice to just buy in with 50+ units so you have plenty to handle the swings, but it draws less attention buying in for a "more appropiate" amount like 20 units. Not many ploppies buy in for 500 and start out betting 10 per hand. Ploppies are more likely to buy in for small amounts, and keep rebuying as necessary.

Scot is correct - I typically buy-in for as little as 10u and immediately look like I'm steaming, throwing money plays out as the chips are depleted. zg
 
If I'm wonging in, and my bet will be at or near my max, I'll maybe buy in for a little more. One one side, losing those big bets and having to buy in every two hands is annoying, but on the other hand, if you start winning those bets you're going to have a ridiculous chip pile pretty soon anyway.
 
With a 1-10 bet spread.

With this big of a bet spread your bankroll is really volital and you should have at least 200 units available to you don't have to buy all the chips right away but you can if you want to. I would start off buying 60 units so you can start with two differnt colors.

If your max bet is 10 units you dont need to have any more than 10 units for any given hand. No need to buy in for 60+ units.
 
Your bankroll must allow you to double and split comfortably.

Never ever have your bankroll small enough so you can't double or split. For that matter make sure you can resplit if the oportunity presents it self make sure you have enough to be able to double after a split. And I recomend having even more than that because even though doing those things might be the right play the dealer could get lucky and you don't want to leave because you had a bad hand that bankrupt you especially if the count is good for the next hand.

If you have only 10u on the table and you need to resplit simply buy more chips. No problemo.

You can still have 200u+ in your wallet, you just don't need to put it all on the table all at once. Buying in for too much over your minimum bet looks kinda weird, and you don't want to look any different than all the regular losers at the casino.

So just buy in for a small amount and if you need to buy more chips to split and double properly.

Under 10k to avoid the CTR. You can buy in for 5k at a time, just go to the cage to do it. If you have someone else with you, have them go to the cage and buy chips as well.

Nice advice... to a highroller :) , but I have a feeling he will not be buying in for 5k+... in fact if I remember correctly this was the person that had the 200 dollar bankroll. I could be confusing him with someone else, but I think it was him.
 
If you your Minimum betting unit is under 100 dollars, don't sweat anything. This is on the strip of course. However, the Indian casinos I have played in the Pacific NW will get pissed if you take from their bottom line. They will make roughly around 15-30k a night yet at some of the larger ones 60-100k. Dont worry quite yet about how much you buy in for. And if your getting heat, you must be making a fortune. Also, you are going to be on and off the table throughout the session. Color up and come back later..etc.etc.. If you are playing for comps, then get your buddies players card. Use his or her name, this will help in the future.

If in fact your bankroll is 200. I would suggest you go to a roulette table and put it all on 17 and Go with the Guts!!!

Why buy in at the cage rather than at the table?
