When the dealer burns a card, do you ask to see it?

Seems some dealers keep it face down and others show everyone at the table.
I never used to ask if the dealer didn't automatically show it, but a lot of people do, so I started doing it,too. Doesn't seem to cause any concern and it's one more card for the count.
 
Dear god no.

I haven't actually seen anyone do it either. Just heard them talk about it on message boards.

I do it. It also depends on the casino, at certain stores the dealer has to announce it and it does draw attention and other places it is no big deal. If you are at first base ask because that card would have been yours if they didn't burn it and make a comment about it. I have had other players twice make a comment about how "only counters want to see the burn card", so it can carry a small risk.
 
Once a dealer asked me why I wanted to see it and I simply said it's bad luck if it's an ace. Seemed to be a reasonable explanation and satisfied her.
 
At the Longhorn casino in Vegas,what they do is flip the first card over,then depending what it is they then burn that amount of cards. If its a 2,they burn 2 cards unseen. If its an Ace,they burn 1,if if its a face,they burn ten.
Its on a 6 deck shoe,and they do it with such ceremony,its almost fun getting screwed over.
But they offer doubling on any 3 cards and are the only casino I'm aware of that offers surrender on a low roller table,and they have $2 minimums on all their tables.
 
if i'm sitting next to a buddy, we make ourselfs look like gambling addicts but really are just looking for the card.

right after they burn, i turn to my friend and say, i'll bet u 5$ the burn card is red. He takes the bet, and if i win he gives me the chip, if i lose i give him the chip... it's a 50/50 bet so in the long run it'll turn out equal...

Plus it's fun to see other ploppy's reactions, when in reality, it's a much more high probability than the game they are playing

Man, some people will bet on ANYTHING! :)
 
i'm not sure that even a lifetime of play will actually show any increased results by getting 1 more card pen (in a multideck game), if u got a SD game then some tactics like mentioned b4 will probably be worth it.
 
Just pull out the Schrodinger's cat explanation. Tell them that if the card isn't shown, it's bad luck because its an unresolved card. If it hasn't been quantumly resolved, that card can show up later in the shoe and bust an otherwise tight hand. To "prove" your point, tell them that its the same reason why dealers have to show their hole card even if the entire table busts. You can't have a face down card that isn't resolved.
 
I like it, "If we don't see the burn card, the cat will die!"

Just this morning at Green Valley Ranch the guy at third base asked if he could see the burn card (double deck game). The dealer said she'd have to reshuffle if she showed it.

Then I asked if we she could show us her hole card. She said no.
