Yes, it's illegal, based on the provisions of Section 117-a of the ABC law in NY. Even "2 for 1 pints" were considered illegal after these laws were passed.
 
Yes,it is illegal but still extremely common.Almost every neighborhood bar does it.And it is factored into the cost of the first three drinks anyway.

Not implying anything. Stating the facts.Any smart bar owner works out a profit schedule based on selling 18-20 bottles of a 24 bottle case,or getting 21 shots out of a bottle,not 25.Exact mileage may vary.Some give an ounce of liquor,some vary by a 1/4 ounce or so.
Any decent bartender( but not particularly honest) keeps a running track of how many people come in for one or two beers,adds them up and knows about how many extra "free" drinks he has to give or to charge for and put in his tip cup.
 
ive been curious about some of the indian casinos in oklahoma- something about comission- WTF? Does this half of your winnings are "commision"

The California casinos used to be that way too (some still are). They would charge $1 for every hand you played. There was a little circle just above the big betting circle, like the ones for side bets. You had to put $1 in the little circle then you could put whatever bet you wanted in the big one. It was a total ripoff, but that’s the way it works for player-banked games.

this is still how it goes. went to larry flynt's "casino" and it was a $1 charge per hand. people playing $10 a hand were putting it out just like all the suckers putting out $1 when they were playing $100/hand, all out of CSMs to boot! and I think there are other fees as well, but for the love of god i can't follow or figure out how player-banked or player/non-house banked games work, it just *feels* like a total scam.

i've scoped out 2 casinos in california like this, any casino that is called a "card-casino" will have similar rules and taxation and will be completely worthless to play.


any non-Indian casino in CA will be played as described above.

I believe he said cruise ships and canada in the post. It's illegal in Canada according to the gaming laws, as far as the ships are concerned at least RCCL goes I never really paid. I tip occasionly first for service then maybe every other drink or third one. I don't drink alcohol anymore because I lost my drinkers permit. If you want to drink go to a bar, Rule #1 if you want to win at bj don't drink. blackchipjim
