I haven't been to his seminar but I've seen his DVDs. It looks like the seminar is mostly advanced techniques. It's probably a basic introduction to certain techniques, similar to the DVDs. Information about these techniques is available for free all over the internet (and quite a bit here as well!) so you might be better off doing a few internet searches before you decide.

Semyon's seminars cover the theory of counting the go on to spend most of their time looking at various advanced forms of play. Semyon was one of the best to ever use these techniques and there's never any replacement for hands on tutition, but there are a few mistakes in his DVD's. Whether these were deliberate or not is another story.....

There is a big difference between reading about the technique on the internet and having an actual teacher supervising your play and tell you your weak points and how to improve them. If you think that's worth it, then go ahead. If you only want to know the techniques and don't really care about having your play evaluated, then save your money and do a Google search.

In addition, their presence will be announced to all other Seminar participants ahead of time.

I don't think it's a joke but he probably did so to make sure no casino employee would come to one of his seminar and no casino with any logic would pay so much for the seminar because the casino would not save anywhere near $800,000 simply by going there, especially if you consider that they already know the techniques learned there and since the players would be told about it, they would probably ask to get transfered to the next seminar.

In honest i think it's more about giving the attendees a sense of security, even if it is fairly false. The truth of the matter is that there is little Semyon could do short of taking the photos of every attendee to follow this up with legal action - all they'd need is a false name - but anyone going to these seminars wants to feel that there's no chance that someone from a detective agency is sitting taking photos.
And more to the point, as stated above, this information has been freely avalible for many years now and surveillence staff want to know more about how to detect it than how to play it.

I can't say the Semyon ranks high up my list of model players.
It's interesting to see that you can't make a post without verbal abuse, as to it, i've never seen you post anything useful, informative or even in the slightest knowlegable about the game of blackjack. The extent of your understanding of the game seems to be limited to name calling.

You don't get it do you? Leeching off the merit of other people doesn't make you a knowlegable, intelligent or decent person. If you need to rely on other people vouching for you to show your ability, you don't have any. If you have any of this great understanding of the game that you keep alluding to, put your money where you mouth is and share some of your knowledge. But you won't. You'll make some innane comment about not needing to prove yourself to hacks....blah blah blah.
Nobody takes anything you say seriously, in fact most people here won't even bother responding to you. Kinda says it all really. If you had anything interesting to say people would want to talk to you.

I'll laid you a challenge, contribute one useful comment to any topic on this forum, without insulting anyone. Anything informative, or observational. You can be critical or positive, you can even start a new topic discussing something you feel hasn't be talked about. If you can manage it maybe people will start to listen too you, but the safe money is on that you won't. And once again with the 'you've no skills or knowledge, i don't need to prove myself to jackoffs blah blah blah'. If that's all you're going to say - again - don't bother. You claim to know so much, but can't even make one helpful suggestion to any topic. Nothing. Not one comment on playing the game, tactics, style, anything. You referrence BHOF members, but couldn't actually provide anyone here with any proof that they even know you. Hearsay. Your word means nothing. Claiming that they'd all speak highly of you means nothing, as to get them to speak highly of you - if they'd even associate with such a rediculous egotisitcal asshole - would involve revealing who you are in public and if you were prepared to do that in this game, no hall fame-er would think much of you.
