Translation: This site was filled with nothing but neophytes who know nothing of my history - thus making them perfect targets for my salespitch - before the pros got here and ruined it all...

Well look, it goes to show, anybody can claim anything on the net. People claim to be knowledgable in some field, claim to be experts, claim to be you, etc. I disregard all claims in deference to demonstrations and results.
Now if you'll all excuse me, I've got some sims to run and chart to print before I go off to battle for the long weekend! And if I see any obnoxious people holecarding, I'll be sure to point them out to the pit. Wouldn't that be funny if they got arrested. :celebrate Do you think they'd sell each other out down at the police station?

Resist the AM temptation
C'mon guys. Haven't we given Automatic Monkey enough entertainment? Everybody here knows he likes to make outrageous posts with little or no factual basis. Nobody with a lick of sense can take his posts seriously, regardless of where they stand on the political spectrum. I doubt if he takes them seriously. Responses are futile, unless one wishes to engage in a pissing contest with a skunk. So, instead of clamoring to kick him off the page, I would suggest, as has been suggested on the Admin page, that we simply ignore his posts. Don't open them, don't read them, don't respond to them. Resist the temptation. No matter how you respond, you can't make him look any worse than he does all by himself. You can only encourage him with responses, and wind up with threads that push discussion of any other issues down to the bottom of the page.
Children often engage in attention-getting behavior just to get a response, whether it be negative or positive. AM engages in exactly that behavior here and we give him exactly what he wants. While at first, he is likely to put up a spate of posts just to see if he can get a response, he will soon tire of that and will either start posting in a responsible fashion or tuck his tail between his legs and leave.

i have no sense then, because i'm siding with the chimp. don't you know that monkeys have undergone more evolution than humans over the past 100,000 years. they are working their way to the top of the evolutionary ladder, and since i'm secretly aligning myself with them now, every chance i get, to learn from their evolutionary advantage.

Those sims aren't going to help you. You've already said you're going to be playing red chips and not taking realistic measures to being a Real Pro or getting a respectable level of EV from your hobby. So, simulate to your heart's content, and then enjoy wasting your time and pretending you're something besides a weekend warrior. By the way, it's good of you to go ahead and let us know your natural inclination is one of a rat, though it doesn't matter anyway, because you'd probably be too oblivious to see another advantage player of any stripe in action, because you'll be too busy trying to remember if you should bet four red chips or five red chips given the current count. That said, if the hole-carders do get arrested, I'm sure they'll be getting the last laugh after their six figure settlements come in from their civil law suits, as that would be wrongful arrest ont he part of the casinos.
Blue Cross/Blue Shield catastrophic insurance. Just a little protection against tremendous negative variance. Sure, it's negative EV, just like all insurance, but I'll take it, in that I only have this one life to live, and it would suck to be holding the ball in the rare event of a terrible turn of events and hundreds of thousands of dollars of medical bills. Mine is a health savings plan, so I'm effectively contributing toward my first deductible with every payment.
The other option is to marry someone with an actual job that has benefits.
1: Chimps aren't monkeys.
2: Some species of monkey haven't changed at all in the last 100,000 years.
3: Evolution happens continuously to all populations of organisms. Some mutations are accepted by the population because it makes them more successful or for reasons of novelty, and some are rejected because they do not enhance chances for survival. To say that one organism has "undergone more evolution" than another organism is meaningless, because it is a continuous statistical process that happens at the same rate to all populations. Rejection of a change is a response to evolutionary pressures just as is acceptance of a chance. Thus, if you accept the premise that life arose on this planet at one time and we are all descended from that initial emergence of life, then you must concede that all organisms are equally evolved, from bacteria to man. That is the most commonly accepted model in the scientific community today.

Actually, no. My EV for this trip is $5600, assuming no unplanned opportunities. I pick up my boat next week, and I'll only be playing red chips (if at all) for my next two paychecks if I make EV. If I have good variance I'll still be playing green or black, and if I have bad variance, I'll be writing a check for my boat and still be playing green in a couple of weeks. Maybe I'll steam down the East River and visit QFIT. You're welcome to join me, just let me know so I can offload a few hundred pounds of gear first.
The casino will have a much stronger case if a few cards turn up bent. :devil:

Would you say though that for a beginner (has just learned BS, has learned some counting, but yet to try in the casino) BJA is ok? I read it and found it interesting, but I am just starting out. Maybe the spreads and table conditions he gives are unrealistic, but they show you that conditions are important and that the bigger the spread you employ gives you also better results.
Another question: the other tactics you say are out there, things you need or should learn to be a very good BJ player - are they all in print somewhere on how to learn or at the very least the basics are somewhere to be found?? In your opinion after conditions and counting what would you say a person should learn next?
