An example of 2-man team play

The bulk of my play the last couple of months has been with someone I've known ~15 years. He has been a counter for a number of years, but I didn't know it until recently. We decided to give team play a try. We share bankroll and split wins/losses down the middle. We typically play at the same casino, though occasionally we play neighboring casinos if one of us sees someone in the pit who would make play impossible. When playing at the same casino, we typically play different tables, though occasionally we signal the other to come in during a good count, if the other is not currently in a +EV situation.

Below are our numbers to date. Each line represents a different casino/time period. Some details have been removed to protect the innocent (columns F and G are our individual records ) :grin: In summary, besides being profitable, it's been a lot of fun having someone else to play with.

What is your team strategy? Is this just a situation where you each play at separate tables and split the wins and losses down the middle? Are you each playing precisely the same spread and basic unit? And what is your basic unit?
 
so i guess at this point your averaging $206/hr each?
not bad if so. how much is that over your expected winrate?

Strategy is we each play at separate tables, and when there's a good count try to signal the other in case he's looking for a +EV opportunity (either wonged out or playing a neutral game.) We're playing pretty much the same spread and unit. Unit is usually $25, once in a while $50 depending where we are playing, spreading to 1x10 or 2x(6-8).

The numbers show how variance is decreased when we add our play together.

We're ahead of expected win rate, though I haven't run any numbers lately. BTW, how do you do the multi-quote thing, including the original posters ID?
 
Assuming you're playing shoes, if your max bet is in the $250 range, then I would spitball your win rate at no more than $50 hour, before tipping, expenses, etc.

So, congratulations on the winning streak.

We were at $50 tables in the high roller pit. Count was good and I was getting a little scrutiny from the pit, so I colored up at the end of the shoe. My partner played the next shoe and count again went way up. He was betting 2 hands of chunky black while I was chatting with the PC (refer to Grosjean's comments in Beyond Counting about how teammates can help each other by distracting the pit.) That was a great inauguration for our team play!

thanks for sharing this, seriously. i think about team play once in awhile. sadly i don't have quite enough yet to go "in" with anyone, and still don't know anyone i would trust. i'm grooming one or two smart undergrads in the neighborhood, but don't know if they'll have the bank yet either....

This happened when I played with 'Turtle' at NYNY - he was barred with two max bets (1000-1000)
and as security led him to the cage I switched tables without missing a hand and played the shoe out. zg

I would never trust anyone. Not even my own mother. Money can and will corupt the best ! I believe in the old saying "In God We Trust".

Did you mean THE 'Turtle' out of Michael Covel's book?? If so, I'd like to hear more stories!! :)

What a sad statement, I feel sorry that you have trust issues! Sometimes in life you have to take a leap of faith but do it on a calculated judgement.
