Cards Face Up Promotion

A local casino is offering a promotion where the dealer plays 1 hand with both cards face up every 20 minutes. Normal game rules are:

8 deck, 75% penetration, DAS, DOA, H17

Assume the game is full with 7 players.

Is this a +EV game?

Thanks,

Oscar

Can you raise your bet before the magic rounds? Do they let you take Insurance?

To me, the above sounds like a method for a casino to attract card counters for easy identification. They would know all the counters would come running. I would think it would be wise to avoid such games, no?

Licentia.

You don't have to be a card counter to enjoy the advantage of this game. Seeing the dealer's hole card will give any rational person an advantage over the house. In this case, the risk is small and generally worth it.

If you can jump your bet, this would be awesome. What about spreading from 1-10 within a minute or two of the magic hand?

Probably the best way to play is without too large a spread to avoid getting tossed and "jokingly" suggest that everyone play slowly.

The amount you can bet on the promotional hands is limited to your approximate average bet since sitting down at the table.

Okay, so sit down at a crowded, slow table. Take frequent bathroom breaks. And move your bets enough that they don't notice.

So, if you're playing at a crowded table, 60 hands/hour, then you have 19 hands at the usual house edge (0.5%) and then one hand where you see both cards, so you get the usual (10%?) advantage.

Sounds like at the most basic level, you'd have a breakeven game.

It may even be higher than the usual advantage (~10%) on that hand because you will be allowed to play completely optimally with no worries of heat (IE hitting 18 or 19 versus a dealer 20, and other plays you may not be able to make with usual hole carding).

About 12-13% on the up hands if you're allowed to take Insurance. About 10.5% without. But that's pure flat-betting. Just bet 1 at negative EV and 3 at positive and you would dramatically increase overall EV. Of course you need to know HC strategy. http://www.qfit.com/blackjackholecarding.htm

the original poster stated that every 20 MINUTES a round would be played with an exposed hole card NOT every 20 ROUNDS. Just slow the game down to a crawl and this sounds like a pretty exploitable game. Like QFIT said this is still a decent game even if it is every 20 rounds instead of minutes.

If you are playing a 60 hands/hour like ER said, you would get a double exposure hand every 20 hands.

60 hands per hour = 1 hand per minute. So it should take ~20 minutes for every 20 hands (and 1 of those hands would be face up).

yes but this game is exploitable because no matter how many hands per hour you get, you will always get 3 double exposure hands per hour so you want to slow the game down as much as possible so you play fewer -EV hands.

My thinking is a good drunk act would be perfect for slowing this game down. Not sure about you guys but i think this would be a really fun promo to try to exploit.
