Hello all. I have been a follower of this site for a few months now while learning to count and trying to learn as much as possible before heading to the casino. I went for my first trip yesterday and ended up 100 units!

The casino I go to offers 2:1 on suited blackjacks at a few tables during certain times of the day. I have calculated the house edge under normal conditions as -.35%. I have searched the internet for the change with the 2:1 rule and it appears to be +.57%? Is this correct? That would mean that I would be playing with a +.22% edge off the top? If so, I am curious as to how some of you who have been at this for much longer would attack this situation?

Yes; it's correct to add this .57 to the inherent house advantage. While I personally wouldn't go out & buy a PLANE ticket for a .22% advantage, if it was my HOME casino I'd make it a point to adjust my playing schedule around these hours.

And congrats on your hundred bet win. But don't forget, you were VERY lucky. You're going to also have 100 bet losses somewhere along the way.

Sorry but this is not true, a 100 unit loss is not "due" after 100 unit win.

A card counter, if he plays long enough, and if he's playing correctly; can expect to have 100 or more unit losses at sometime or another during his counting career. This is absolutely true.

Nowhere in my post did I did I imply that it's going to happen right away. I'm puzzled as to how you could have possibly confused "somewhere along the way" with "due".

Does this place have this rule on 4 tables, but not in the two other pits nearby that are adjacent to one another? If so, please don't post the location, but the rule was changed within the past few days to now pay 3:2 as usual. The change was very poorly communicated to the dealers, so a few may still pay 2:1, but not for much longer. I was in that area this weekend visiting friends and always liked to stop by that game when I was passing through. I was quite disappointed with the change. With the pen at 4/6 and atrocious game speed, this game is now worthless. Of course, if I'm wrong about the location, disregard :laugh:

To answer your question about the proper approach, the correct spread can be determined with software, but as a rough approximation you can just bet as if the TC were 1 higher than it really is. The advantage shifts by roughly 0.5% per true count, and this rule shifts your advantage up by roughly 0.5%. This means you will be starting with a bet of something like 2-4 units at TC 0 (depending on your spread) and will only drop to 1 unit at TC -1. You will generally have your max bet out sooner than usual because you'll reach the same advantage at a lower TC. This is just a rough estimate, but it will get you in the right ballpark.

2:1 on suited blackjack is very nice for a counter. HOWEVER, we can't make the mistake of assuming our risk of ruin is similar to a game with a .22% edge off the top. The rule will increase your variance/standard deviation.

You probably shouldn't adjust your spread much. This is because your suited blackjacks will be quite rare; yes, you have an extra half percent, but it's not as bettable of a half percent.

Basically: don't just move your betting ramp one TC point over to adjust.
