Last night while wasting time between tournament rounds I sat down at a $5 table. After a few hands I had a $30 bet out. There were 5 of us at the table. First base had 17, next was 20, next was 19, I had 19 and third base had 10. The dealer had an A up. The 20 took insurance but the dealer didn't have BJ so he lost that. 3rd base was the only one to take a hit and he got an 8 for 18.
Dealer turns up his down card and it's another A. He calls it 2, then he draws a 9 and calls it 11, then a 3 and finally another 3 calling it 17. The dealer pays each of his except for 1st base, he took his bet. 1st base said, wait a minute didn't I push. I thought we were sunk at that point because the dealers generally call the pit critter over when that happens. This time he didn't. He looked at 1st base's hand and said it was a 17, then counted his another time and still got 17 and said "Oops, you're right it's a push" and gave him $5 back. 1st base said he bet $15. Again I thought we were sunk, but again the dealer just said "Oh, sorry" and gave him $10 more.
So thanks to at least 4 mistakes by the dealer I was up $30 instead of down $30. I'll take a $60 gift anytime!
