Trop is a good choice for BJ, Harrah's is not. But good penetration is anywhere you find it and that's all you're really looking for.
One way to adjust your thinking on BJ missions- you're not there to play. You're there to take. Your mindset should be predatory. Backcounting is good practice for this. Maybe you should dedicate a mission solely to backcounting, and that will make eventhe H17 games at Harrah's playable.
Hey AM, Your so so right and I need to listen more. I learned a very important lesson yesterday. ERGH...........................................
OK, remember m,y other half plays horses and has to have a decent parlor. We decide to compromise and play Harrahs in the day (his track he handicaps the most has day racing) and play Trop at night, his second track isn't as important and Trops race book STINKS.....................................
Off the the 8 deckers. Very very very very busy.... Not a good sign... I play $10 tables since I am still a relatively new counter. No $10 tables, ALL $15 minimum. I sit down and backcount a shoe, it stays negative I dont play. Second shoe comes it gets positive I play and my head was hurting, this dealer was the FASTEST dealer I have ever sat under in my life and swiped up those cards with lightening speed. My count was fine, but I swear it is harder when they are that fast. I lost $150 in that shoe. Dealer relief, slower dealer head gets a rest, I get back $75 of the lost money again wonging playing when it is only positive. I sit through another shoe, they were walloping off cards like I have never ever seen before at Harrahs. I am sorry if I am not supposed to say this on the forum, but it was so crowded and I lost so much I dont think it matters. I learned my biggest lesson ever. You CANT play an 8 deck shoe when the wallop off 2.5-3 decks and be at a count of even +3. ERGH..... I played another shoe and I lost another $150, so I guess I was down about $300. I left the smoking side ( I dont smoke but the tables were available here). I went to the non-smoking side and played. Every weirdo that could possibly be out to play BJ was at Harrahs yesterday. ERGH... OK so the guy at first base was doubling down a 12 against the dealers 10 with a count of +5. He split 4s against a 10. he stood on 13 against 10 etc etc. ERGH, so hard to watch. I had a full table I was at 3rd base. The dealer dealt to a "player will return" seat and I had a great hand the pit made her take up all the cards and deal the next round. Sorry guys, but I really felt like it was a "bad luck" day and since I am a psychic on the side, my gut did say just play to count and learn and chalk it up you have to lose sometime. By the time I left Harrahs I was down $500.. I started with $500. I was NOT a happy camper. I have never had as many 12,13,14,15 and 16 hands as I did at Harrahs yesterday. ERGH... Again though ALL the dealers were cutting off a min of 2.5 decks, and the other really "to me" strange thing is I kept seeing 4 aces over and over when the dealer drew, every table all day. What a waste of aces.. Anyway, we headed to Trop ate at Carmines (very good btw) and off to find the 4 deckers. So, they were $25 min and I dont do $25, I am a big chicken with not alot of money that I am willing to lose and my trip bankroll wasn't sufficient after being destroyed at Harrahs. My other half really wants to unload me so he doesn't miss the first race so he tells me I have to try this sooner or later and JUST F-IN DO IT. ERGH. I took the plunge. Here is the best part!!! They could not care less if I sat or I played at all. This made it much less dramatic for me. I played 4-5 hours starting with $200 and cashed out at $815. Remember I rarely raise my bet and just starting with $25 was making me sick, I dont feel confident enough, it isn't the money I am fine if I lose it no emotion with that, annoys me but I can handle it, I just want to "trust" how I play. I had some good double down and split opportunities and I did get a few blackjacks. Now for the strange stuff I didnt understand.
At one point they took a dealer off my table ( was doing REALLY WELL while she was dealing) and yelled at her and sent her away, brought another one in, took her away and then brought a third one in WTF? During ONE 4 deck shoe???? Did I miss something???? Remember I AM blonde... and VERY UNOBSERVANT.... At this point I was up $300 but I am sure they dont care about my little measily amount of money. Next, as it is getting later, 11 pm ish, the dealers who began with a nice shoe, starting giving us 2-2.5 decks of playable cards...My other half was done, ready to go, and I took a signal it was time to leave soon, I sat out every other shoe, then played one more and made another $150 and we left. After all of it I was down I think $150for the trip, which was really OK since when I left Harrahs it was a bloodbath.
Was anyone else in AC Saturday? Oh and I never bet more than $30 or $35 even when I did get good counts.. I have to work on that still..
