After the release of AC casinos' report card (see below), casino top executives cried the BAD WEATHER as a reason for 12%-drop (40,000,000 bucks!) in September revenue!

Hmm... the good old Alibi of Bad weathers . Wake up executives! Give gamblers/AP-wannabies good games & comps, and they'll come and deposit million bucks into your "interest-free-casino-savings-accounts" ! In November, the executives will cry wolf again, and they will thank tonight's Northeaster Storm as another reason for dropping million-bucks in October revenue.

It almost seems that the casinos with the oldest clientele had the worst drop.

Being all these casinos count on slot revenue for the bulk of their income, it would seem reasonable that something that would keep the (generally older) slot patrons away would affect their profits the most. As blackjack AP's we probably overestimate the importance of blackjack to the profitability of a casino. Most casinos could stop dealing blackjack altogether and they would not lose all that much money.

Good to see HET properties occupy 3 of the top 5 biggest loser spots. :laugh: Even though they do have a few playable games in my LV rotation, I still find myself rooting against them. Kind of hard for me to let go that they brough both h17 and 6-5 blackjack to AC, when that was my home base. I would love to see them continue to be hit hard financially and sell off some of that evil empire. Although it doesn't effect me personally, I do give them credit for bucking the resort fee trend in Las Vegas so far.

Let's see the weather in AC every weekend in September

Labor Day weekend was beautiful, Hurricane Earl never hit
September 11th was beautiful, 12th was rainy
September 18th-19th was also beautiful
September 25th was hot, 26th was rainy late in the evening

Every Friday had no rain

So one rainy day in September caused the revenues to decline. I doubt it. More likely the opening of the Pennsylvania stores (with better blackjack rules).

In fairness, Labor Day weekend was expected to be a washout and I'm sure many people changed their plans thinking the storm was going to hit. My cousins lodge on Cape Cod lost 80+% of its reservations for that weekend and it turned out fairly nice there, as well. Do they break it down by weeks or just by months?

The card players at the Borg are going to PA, knowing they're getting a better game there. Showboat attracts the ploppy crowd by offering $5 games and the ploppies don't know or care about LS or S17. They also must have had a nice summer since they're on the boardwalk and AC had a hot summer. Showboat has also offered more live entertainment on the floor.

Tables games

I kinda disagree with the notion that table games have no effect on the casinos bottome line. Pa showed a markedly increase in revenues after they implemented table games as did certain W.va joints. I wouldn't attribute one game to the increase but tables games in general that are low min and playable attract alot more patrons then the latter.

Profit update

I just read in the casino city times that revenues are up in Pa. It is in fact attributed to the tables. Overall revenue is up so it's safe to assume that it coincides with the change to table games since July.

Looking at the detail,Borgata had a comparatively low win in September at the tables vs 2009 (12% in 09 vs, 17.4% in 10). Although their drop was down year over year (about 10%), the change in their percentage win really dragged their numbers down. The % win can vary quite a bit from month to month.

Showboat on the other hand had a comparatively good winning month at the tables (19% in 2010 vs. 11.6% in 2009) Their drop was actually down about 20% year on year but this was more than made up for by the greatly increased win %.

The slot numbers are reported by handle so they are a much better apples to apples comparison on a year-on=year basis.

Lets see 296 million is bad?? :laugh: Screw them.....I dont have numbers but i do know that the vast majority of their revenue is off slots......Casinos hate table games ...its a waste to them as far as all those employee wages and all that goes with hiring people. BUT!!!!!!!
Lets think of all the people that like to play BJ and they bring their slot playing friends with them.....Husband BJ ....wife plays slots....grandma slots...grandpa slots.....
Probably that is what happend when PA opened all BJ players went to pa and there went the slot players with them...
But what do i know....

Screw AC what a nasty place.... and i havent been there in years!!!!

For several years, whenever there is heavy snow or rain, i would flock to AC for open tables so there is a trend to be foudn with bad weather, It could also be that I am soley responsible for their economic hardships.

I too have made a habit of heading to AC the past several years whenever severe bad weather was predicted. Major snow storms are the best. Hurricane warnings a close second. Doesn't even matter if the storm fizzles out or turns away at the last minute, just the threat keeps people away and conditions good.

Last year after moving to Vegas in early December, I returned East for the holidays. I thought I had wrapped up my blackjack play for the year but just as I got off the plane, a big snow storm was about to hit. 20+ inches. I headed straight to the big house in AC and conditions were great. It was a weekend night and nearly every table was open, maybe more tables than total players. Although they began to close tables as the night wore on, conditions were great for table hopping all night. I had quite a good little run and improved my yearly totals by about 10%. I refer to that as my christmas bonus. :laugh: Unforetunately I was back in Vegas, when the east coast experienced two more such blizzards later in the winter.

In the CT casinos, which are in a place that can get very heavy snowfall, they will order their dealers to come to work in a blizzard, see how many patrons show up, then send enough dealers home to keep the tables full. If anyone needs a union they do.

Hey Now!
Had 2 nights booked at the Borg in Feb after the 20 in. storm this year, they were calling for another 14 in., so I got comped at Harrah's last minute- my regular rate was $29..... so I took off before the storm and both places were dead.. This was Tue-Fri.
But the $5 table at the Borg wasn't ever full.....

Oh they got the union in, but no one is sure what it means. Unions on an Indian reservation are in a legal terra incognito. So for now the UAW is happy to collect dues and do nothing.

I heard (from a dealer) a month ago they just fired a large percentage of dealers with benefits and replaced them with dealers without benefits.

For 2 of the snowstorms in February I went to AC and got a 2 day comped room for each. Best part was getting upgraded to a suite for free for a weekend. Had a nice view of the snow falling over the ocean. I even got interviewed on the Weather Channel (of course I didn't blow my cover on national TV)

it was nice to have empty tables all weekend and no people who take the bus to AC for the day since the buses weren't running. Unfortunately I lost over $500 that month.
