I wouldn't buy it if I knew I weren't going to Vegas that year unless I were buying it as a gift. Probably about 90% of its value is in that one city. The book itself isn't that great as a gambling guide, although it does have a few maps that are useful.

There are a couple of 2-4-1 AC buffets. Any one of them will cover the books cost. If you are into trading, you can easily obtain all the 2-4-1 buffets you'll need. I do a fair bit of trading with folks from Missouri or Indiana. They want the local coupons I'll never use, and I get Vegas/Laughlin coupons.

Can someone explain to me how free slot play works? Do you have to bet X on slots, and then your losses are refunded with the coupon up to X? Can you play, say, $10 worth of slots with 1 pull on a $10 slot machine?
Edit: Should it matter, the one that really piques my curiosity is the $15 free slot play at the Venetian, since I usually make a stop there whenever I'm in Vegas. I don't usually go downtown so the free match plays / free slot plays would be pretty much wasted since I'd spend more making an extra trip than I'd get out of the coupons.

It varies from casino to casino but usually they put $10 on your card to put $10 in credits on a machine with the only requirement that you play at least once through, you can use it all on one spin if you want. Your expected return from the freeplay is just the payback of the machine so anywhere from 80-100% of face value, you can usually use it on video poker. A notable exception is the Hooters $200 free play coupon, which if anything like their sign up promo is a lie. They'll put money into a specified machine with substantially reduced payout but only let you cash out if you hit the jackpot. Also to use the slot free play coupons in the ACG you usually have to be a new member.
I picked up a 2009 copy of the book, bought it for the locater maps of casinos and not the coupons. I must say it is pretty disappointing the maps are very crude or simple and not very helpful. As for the coupons they are pretty lousy and almost all of them have restrictions of some sort, almost all coupons require you to sign up for a players card. Some coupons are only available to new club members, current members can't use them and most of the coupons aren't good on the weekends. So be careful if you are thinking of purchasing the book for specific coupons which you might not be able to use. Now if you are a ploppy there are some excellent articles on game and machine selection which could save you money.
