Assembling a Bank Roll

OK - Seriously, if you've got $100 and want to assemble a meaningful bank roll as quickly as possible, how would you go about it? (You don't qualify for bank loans and you can't get a Visa advance. :rolleyes:)

And to get back to some comments on other threads... *sigh*.. . I didn't say this is MY bank roll. :rolleyes:

I'd say play small stakes to get more experienced in counting/using bs/etc. and add your winnings to your BR.
Besides that, just have your normal job and add the money you save to your BR.

A: Sure, as long as you understand the risks you are taking. If you are able to add some money to your bankroll regularly then you can play a little more aggressively. Here are some tips on playing with a small bankroll and supplementing your bankroll:

I would not recommend getting bank loan or a Visa card advance to have a bankroll to play BJ because that's money that you cannot afford to lose. When you lose that borrowed money, you're going to be in a lot debt! If you're going to play, you have to play with a bankroll that you actually lose without affecting your daily living and not be in debt over your head (or at all).

To build a meaningful bankroll, save your $100. Save money until you can have a good sized bankroll. While you're saving up that bankroll, take the time to practice, practice, study, read, practice, study, read, and learn how to truly play at BJ. You're not going to get it right the first time, unless you're Rainman.

A good bankroll means approximately 1000 times the minimum table limit (assuming you count):
$3,000 if you plan on playing at $3 limit tables.
$5,000 if you plan on playing at $5 limit tables.

You may be able to fudge these numbers using the articles listed in the post above.

If you have to get a loan, then it's not a bankroll, don't gamble with money you can't afford to lose. If all you (or who evers bank roll) can come up with is $100.00, you, (or they) should not be gambling.

Well, maybe he can find a dime table somewhere and spread 10 cents to a dollar and make 50 cents an hour :laugh:

Why do we have to have comments like this? :confused: People come here seeking infomation, not to be insulted. If you want to help a new member and explain that $100 is simply no where near enough funds that is fine, and the advice against taking a loan of borrowing on a credit card is sound. That's what the site is all about. But comments like 'get a job' or 'work at mcdonalds' are immature and inappropriate.
 
I disagree. Sometimes people need a reality check. There is no magic bean one gets to grow a bankroll. It grows by you putting money aside from your income.
I recently had a person I am very friendly with ask me what I knew about bankruptcy. He'd gotten behind on some credit cards to the tune of some $8,000 and didn't see a way out. This is a forty something year old man, with a job. I sat him down and showed him how working just three nites a week for a few hours delivering pizza would enable him to pay off his debts in a bit over a year. At first he scoffed at the idea, but he is now doing just what I suggested, only he delivers Gyros instead.
Want to raise a bankroll? You need to either add income or cut expenses.
Get a PT job, earn $150 a week from it and bank it for a year. Now you have a $7500 BR.

Well, if anybody takes offense to a comment like that, they aren't ready to AP. You need a much much thicker skin then that to handle it.

and to be honest, I don't think somebody can possibly be serious about trying to build up a bankroll from 100 bucks. I mean, $1000 or $10000 is a threshold where it's insufficient but people may legitimately think it is enough, but $100? come on

If that's all you got, "get a job" REALLY is the best advice.

My first rip to Vegas to play Advantage BJ, my bankroll for the entire eight day trip was $850. I played $2 tables spreading 1-6, and remember splitting 8s with a $10 bet out and drawing a 3 on one hand so I had $30 on the table. Won all three and was sure I'd been made as an AP.

That's actually close to a sufficient bankroll for what you were playing though.

$100 is nowhere near sufficient to play anything

I'll admit I massively overbet on my first AP trip. I bet 2 x 25 on one card poker with 600 bucks on me. (but with another 100K available in the bank)

You disagree, but you just gave a great example of being civil and taking the time to actually explain things rather than just be insulting, which is exactly my point. :)

I get so tired of hearing the "AP's need thicker skin" quote. That's just a BS excuse for someone to be rude and insulting. If you read any of his posts, it is apparent that he is a newbie, as he talks about things like stop-limits and not having enough money to finish out a hand, ect, so if you don't want to be bothered explaining something, then don't, but don't just be insulting to the guy. :(

I am going to disagree with your $10,000 figure being insufficent. Depends on the level of play. For some part-time player spreading $10-$80, 10 grand is ample. For someone hoping to be a full-time player, supporting themselves from blackjack, then yes, $10 grand could be problematic. (although I began my career with about 4 grand and got lucky...:laugh:)

Although I must say I'm new to this world of blackjack, and don't have gobs of money but I'm on a small budget. I'm not trying to make this a career, I live in nj close to ac that expenses aren't a terrible problem, I only want to be sufficient enough to take enough cash to go down, play the tables and come out on top (hopefully) with enough money to enjoy myself for the night or to add to my pocket for the week or so.
 
You are not the first youngster with no job and a little money to come here and try to make it into a handsome amount through BJ gambling. You won't be the last either. So like others say a realty check is what you need.
I don't find the McDonald advice insulting hence. Going to a casino will distract your attempt to find a job. And very damaging to your life. But I am being a preacher here and it is your life to live.
I would only add that other posters story on how they managed to leveraged their small BR into a sizeable one is not beneficial to you either.
