basic strategy question

#1
i am a beginner at blackjack.
in blackjack basic strategy,
"16 vs 10, if 2 cards, hit.
if 3 or more cards, stand."
what does 3 or more cards mean?

rules are split once, dealer peeks,
no surrender.

question 1(single player)
8,8 vs 10, after splitting,
dealt 8,8 again, stand or hit?

question 2
when there are other players at the table,
10,6 vs 10
stand or hit?

The BS chart Ive been using, doesnt differentiate "2 or 3 cards". I'd imagine it means if you get 3 cards to get your hand u dont hit?
BS says hit 16 vs 10. Im always scared to hit 16, but ur supposed to. Also shouldnt matter how many players are at the table. BS is BS.
Im a noob so Im sure some other seasoned members will enlighten you better.

Suppose you are dealt a 7 and a 5. You hit and get a 4. You NOW have 16, with 3 cards. You should stand. That's what's meant by 3 or more cards.

Question 1:
If the rules will not let you split any more, you have to treat it as any other hand of 16, and hit.

Question 2:
Normally hit. But this depends upon how many decks are being played, and whether or not you see any 5's in any of the other player's hands. For single or double deck, if you see one five in a player's hand, stand. For 6 or 8 decks, you would need to see 3 or 4 fives respectively, in order to stand.

Bear in mind that although these are very good questions, the gain by making these plays is almost trivial. If you were to make the wrong play every single time they came up, after one year it would probably cost you less than ten bucks.

These misplays make great camoflauge as they cost so little. I'd also include not splitting 9's against a 2 if I remember my Blackbelt in Blackjack ;).

If you like to read books on Blackjack, try Blackjack Bluebook II by Fred Renzey.

Lots of good info on playing decisions such as 3-card 16's, hand interaction, hand composition strategies, and many more. As a new player, I found the book very useful and it took my game to a new level. It also has good stuff for the more experienced player, as well.

Depends on The Rules of The Game

The index for hitting 16 vs 10 is zero so I usually will stand if the count is postive and hit if negative. However I will stand more often if I'm playing one on one and the casino has the "hide" rule. Then I might stand if the count is even -1 and for sure if I have a three card 16 and the count is only slightly negative.

If you are counting cards you simply stand on all 16's at any positive count.

That is because the decision is so close that it has an "index" of ZERO.

The same holds true for Ace-2 vs. 5 and A4 vs. 4 (in shoe games).

These hands you can double at counts that are above ZERO (all positive counts)
