Best Sim / Optimal Betting Strategy - Help

Hello in another thread I was asking about my EV for playing: 6D, DA2, DAS, NS, H17 with this betting strategy (I use Hi/Lo [still learning indices, ZG says to use 60 but haven't been able to find that anywhere :( ):

TC 0 = $3
TC 1 = $6
TC 2 = $6 + $6
TC 3 = $9 + $9
TC 4 = $15 + $15
TC 5 = $25 + $25

As you can see I really don't know what kind of bets I should be placing, I used to use Semyon Dukach's advice of (TC - 1) x unit = bet but was told that was too conservative, so if anyone could help that would be great.

Also sometimes I am only able to play one hand so how should I change my bet for that?

If anyone can run a sim to get my optimal betting strategy that would be awesome - I want to buy my own sim but what one should I get?

Is CVCX 4 the best one out there? Basically any advice would be greatly appreciated and if someone could point me to the best sim to buy for the money that would be very nice.

You can get the indices from Wong’s Professional Blackjack. The Illustrious 18 (the most valuable 18 indices) and Fab 4 (indices for surrender) are also listed in many books, and you could probably find them by searching this site.

A generic spread would be something like:

<+2 = $5
+2 = $10
+3 = $20
+4 = $40
>+4 = $60

You can find the results of other spreads for various games in Schlesinger’s Blackjack Attack. It has several chapters that discuss betting techniques and bet sizing. There are also some good articles on the Gamemaster (Archive copy) website.

To calculate your one-handed bet, just divide your two-handed bet by 0.57. If you normally play two hands of $25 then you can switch that to one hands of $25 / 0.57 = $43.86 (or round down to $40). It will lower your EV a bit but your ROR will stay the same.

I’ve used Blackjack 678 and CVData. Both are good but the CV software is much more in depth. CVCX is also a great product that probably has all the features most players need and costs less than CVData. You can compare the two here:

Also, for the bet spread should that be spread out over 2 hands?

For example the max bet of $60 should be 2 hands of $30?

I'll read up on the links you gave me and will hopefully purchase some books in the near future to read up on.

On a side note I won a poker tournament at my casino today, $25 buy-in and I rebought for $20 once, but walked away with $385 when the last 4 of us chopped the pot :D

A one hand bet of $60 would become two hands of $60 * .73 = $43.8. Three hands would be $60 * .57 = $34.2 each. In practice you would probably want to round those down to 2x$40 and 3x$30. As you can see, playing multiple hands is a good way to get more money on the table and increase your EV without adding any risk. In fact, you are lowering your risk since you are rounding those numbers down.

Okay last question of the thread hopefully:

For the above betting strategy how much should I bring with me to the casino each time? Does the CVCX sim tell you that or how should one figure out how much to bring?

It depends on how long you plan on playing....

i would advise that you scale your MAX bet to 1% of your total BR.

so if $60 is your MAX bet, then you should have roughly $6000 in the bank to back it up.

if you are going to play a 4 hour session, plan on having 15+ MAX bets in your pocket. Other people recommend bringing XXX average bets, but I find that the max bet approach is easier to calculate.

thanks for the response, yeah right now my bankroll is about $2,500 (just wont at bj and a poker tourney so it went up haha).

So I guess the bet spread Sonny gave me may not be the best one to use, I'm going to buy CVCX 4 right now so we'll see what I can come up with, but usually my max bet is around $30 (<- what I have been using before starting this thread).
