Bet Spread at the Bars

So in North Dakota, a lot of bars offer blackjack under the charity gaming laws our state provides. A few of the tables offer a $1 minimum and $25-$50 max. Usually I just do a 1:5 unit spread at the tables and I haven't put much time in at the bars yet. Any idea what I can expect to make an hour betting 1:25 or 1:50?

that's too general a question. you have to provide all the game details, decks, rules, pen. then you get an answer.

Sorry, I forget our regions standards aren't nationally standard.
Six deck shoe, good penetration, Hit on S17, double anything, split pairs, 3:2 BJ, insurance

Just a complete guestimate, if your spreading 1-50, $10 an hr is a rough estimation. Probably a bit higher.

I really depends on the ramp. If you had the cash and bet $50 at TC>=2, you'd be around $85/hr (per CVData, Complete HiLo).

This is not correct. If you never placed a bet except at TC +1 or better and you always bet $50 (1 spot only) and you were getting 5.5/6 pen, you'd still only make about $25/hr. With 4.5/6 pen and any kind of reasonable betting ramp, you're closer to $10/hr, again with 1 spot only. You could do better if you can spread to multiple hands.

Sorry - I had $5 as the unit, not $1. Still, the 'play all' result is ~$20/hr. according to CVData. Wonging would yield an even better result. When it comes to ramps, spreading from the min to the max as soon as the player gets an advantage will yield the highest win rate, obv. (though the RoR will suck figs):

6d,H17,DAS,RA,NS - 75% pen., $1 unit (your pen. of 5.5 would yield an even stronger result):

P.S. Play all with .5/deck pen = ~$35/hr,

(Changed the max bet to >=+1 for both sims)

Yes, if you havea really aggressive bet ramp, I'm sure you can easily approach $20. Although I don't think wonging out would increase that much, after all its a $1 minimimum?

And good point made by nyne, with wanton spreading this is not such a terrible game.

I think this is right:

Betting $1 at TC<=0 accounts for a little over $5/hour in losses, so wonging out would increase the win rate ~25%.

Not a ton of actual dollars in this game, but stresses the importance of wonging, when possible. As has been said many times, anyone trying to significantly increase their win rate should be wonging.

Would imagine wonging out at everytime count is <=0 iand playing the rest is not realistic even in a bar game, but who knows, its possible the proprietors of the game are completely clueless

WTF?? I posted a couple of hours ago and it's gone. I'm not gonna type it all out again, but $20/hr is not right if you're playing 1 spot. I forget the number but it was right around $13/hr for $1 at 0 or lower, $50 at +1 or higher, using HiLo, full indices, 6D H17 DAS RSA, 75% pen, play all. I don't have a place to host the screenshot, but if you want to PM me an email address, I can email you the image so you can post it. Important to note that I don't recommend playing it this way, I'm just trying to make the point that even spreading 1-50 with nothing in between, this game is still not worth much. I think the BR required for this kind of play was $10500 for a 5% RoR.

Ah...I agree. It was really more of a theoretical thing - the OP wrote '1:25 or 1:50', so I just ran the sim at max EV.

Not here, but I encounter people that always 'play all' and consider any wonging to be too much trouble - they don't think they're giving up that much.

I thought all the ND games were $25 max. Are there some that are $50? Or maybe you mean they let you play 2 hands of $25. What is the charity all about? Where does the money go? What if a bunch of APs camped out somewhere and the place lost money? Does the charity pay?

I'd have a really hard time ethically doing any AP maneuvers against a good charity. If instead of needy children getting money I was getting some of that money, I wouldn't play this game, no matter how good it is. I'm not judging or criticizing anybody else for playing it, because we are all taking money from somewhere when we do AP, but that's just me personally.

I line up behind Assume_R on this issue.

Taking money from a charity is just bad karma.
I only want to extract it from corporate troves.
… or privately owned casino's bank accounts.

More Common Sense?

Be wary of table max bets; especially if you play same places frequently, do they call it? Perhaps max bets only when losing.
Don't be greedy
Unfortunately, probably these types of places a grand would be a lot, probably even $500.

Thanks for posting that for me. Again, I don't recommend playing it that way. I just wanted to show that even when taken to extremes, that game isn't worth much.
