betting spread for single and double question

I read somewhere that you're betting spread should be two times the number of decks you're playing with. So my question is, what is the best betting spread for single and double deck games with good penetration? Would it really be 1 to 2 for single and 1 to 4 for double?

I've been experimenting with my Las Vegas Super Casino Plus game and I'm doing well at single deck with a 1 to 4 spread using only the running count, but I'm getting killed at double deck with the same spread using the true count. Going to be in downtown LV and I want to be prepared in case I find any games with good rules and good penetration.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Its not quite that simple, because RULES need to be taken into account. Also, smaller stakes can get away with bigger spreads. So typically figure FOUR TIMES the #decks as a MINIMUM SPREAD for "play-all" counts type approach and less spread if you are 'wonging' (ie, back-counting, avoiding minus counts).

Calculate 'minimum' spread from topBet downward:

($100 topBet = $10k BR)

1D $25-100
2D $10-100
6D $5-$100
6D $25-100 (wong)

My answer would be "spread as much as you can get away with." If you can get away with a 1-8 spread at SD and a 1-12 spread at DD then go for it! Just pay attention to the heat and be prepared to cut your session short if you need to.

You will be able to get away with a smaller bet spread when the penetration is very good, but a 1-4 spread at DD typically isn't going to cut it unless you are Wonging around.
