Buying in for $500 is not a bad idea because than you have two colors of chips. $100 Red and $400 green and you can spread your bets better and have less heat when you are playing two colors. A 1 to 3 spread is a lot easier. You can have 2 red chips as a bet. Deck gets good you can have a green and red chip as bet you only bet 2 chips but you bet $30 instead of $10. Betting 6 red chips looks like a bigger bet than betting a green and red. Survallanace people are visual people and betting a one green chip instead of 5 read chips helps to keep your profile down.

If you are playing anonymously you should buy in for ridiculously small amounts... If you are playing rated, than you don't want to risk them missing/not recording your buy-in and should buy in for at least 10 average bets at a time... That's my take...

Buy in for 400 at a craps table, and just stand there till the shooter rolls a seven, then leave without placing a bet. Then take your chips to the blackjack table. It's normal to have hundreds in chips from another game and casinos would love to see you lose back your "winnings" from another game. And take some black chips home with you if you're a regular.

If you just buy in for 100 and the count is high and you have say, $50 left, you can push all the chips in. If the count goes up, bet $100 on the next hand, either by parlaying the win or buying in for $100 and betting it all. Then again, if you're betting that low, you probably don't have to worry about cover. Ploppies usually buy in for 1 or 2 at a $10 table, and 4 or 5 at a $25 table.

In LV and AC they do. At the Borg, I routinely buy in for 2K in the poker room, pretend to read the board, then walk out.

Well, ok. A lot of places I go to only go up to 2-5, so they only give out reds.

I would not be able to buy in somewhere other than the BJ table where I normally go. But when I go to vegas I will have to try and buy in somewhere other than there to see how it goes.

It doesn't look abnormal for someone to walk out of the poker room with a rack full of red chips, and then gamble them on other games. In fact, a casino would love it if a good poker player beats the poker game and loses his winnings on other games.
