Card counting impossible nowadays

#1
Hi,

Card counting is harder now because the casino uses 6-8 decks and after each hand, all the cards are put back into the shoe, and then all the cards are dealt again. Basically, the cards are reset to 6-8 decks after each hand and you can't predict the cards that are left, because the cards aren't separated from the shoe? I hope this makes sense.

Yes; it makes perfect sense. Card counting is impossible at the casino that YOU frequent. Fortunately; not all casinos use CSMs (the type of shoe that you're talking about).

Take a trip to Vegas. Or just about anywhere else. Look around. All is not lost! :)

BTW; the subject of CSMs has been discussed on this site literally hundreds of times.

And just clarify Sucker's post in case you aren't up to date on your BJ acronyms - CSM stands for continuous shuffling machine; I'm sure you can figure out why.

I'm a real person, not a bot

I have played blackjack using 'basic strategy', but I always win some - loose some. No real gains. Unless your card counting, which I've never done, this game is chance because you don't know what your next hand/dealer's hand will be. I'm saying, that's all. And I mentioned they use CSM at my casino, which makes it much harder. I need a trip to Vegas!

I wish card counting was "knowing your next hand / dealer's hand will be."
It would make things alot easier.
I think you need to read some more and stop posting for a while.

I have read a lot and have played blackjack enough to win/lose money. In a "nutshell" everything i do/say I can put down to experience.

You are right even if the count is really high and your betting big you can still lose a lot of hands in a row.
It doesn't really matter [if you lose a lot of hands in a row] if you bet big when you win and small when you lose. :cool2:

If you're not going to count cards it makes virtually no difference if they're using a CSM or not. You're right, the game is chance and you have to be lucky to win when you're not playing with an advantage. Just remember that the house has the edge, so if you do get lucky for a while and win you're going to start losing sooner or later. I'm not real sure what your point is except to overstate the obvious.

Well duh! That's why it is called "Basic Strategy" because it is a loser! If you are counting cards you are using an "Advanced Strategy". Using basic strategy simply means you'll lose less often but the house still has the advantage.

Counting is Impossible

It really is getting tougher and tougher to count.

Recently I saw a bunch of 6s and 9s down at shortstop and third base. But it was 2 a.m., and my eyes were blurry from exhaustion. Before the hand was dealt, the true count was comfortably on the side of doubling my A-9 against the dealer's 5 upcard.

I had to count the pips on the cards to make sure that those were 6s I was seeing down there, so I could double.

I tell ya', counting is impossible these days!
