Casino Burns Three Cards Before Dealing?

At my local casino whenever a new shoe is ready to be played the dealers always take the first three cards and place them in the discard tray face down. How much of a disadvantage could this pose to a counter if their count can automatically be thrown off +/- 3? This is for a six deck shoe..

Thanks

It doesn't "throw off" the count for a counter. Unseen cards of all kinds are treated exactly as if they were behind the cut card, and the overall effect is just 3 cards less penetration.

On the flip side, if you can get the dealer to show you those cards it increases the effective penetration by 3 cards.

Don't think of it as your count being "thrown off"... it's exactly the same as if those cards were behind the cut card. Just don't count them and you're fine.
