Casino Didn't Display Cards On The Table.. Cheating?

Okay.. I just discovered that my local casino has implemented a new DD game, so I thought I'd give it try.

My first couple visits I did all right but something strange happened while playing this DD game in the middle of my third visit.

My dealer was a asian fellow probably close to 70 years of age. About 10 minutes had passed by with him dealing. It was time for a new shuffle...but no.. this dealer says he's tired and going to take a break for a few minutes.

This DD game uses an automatic shuffler that holds 2 separate double decks. So.. i'm just chatting with the dealer for a few minutes until he's ready to deal again. During this time, I noticed the pit boss putting a 2 decks inside the auto-shuffler. I was conversing with the dealer and didn't have my eyes focused on the what the pit boss actually did. I thought maybe he just checked the machine, took the cards out and put them back in..

It was time for the game to start again. The count was going up nicely. The larger bets were coming out but the cards weren't going my way. Seemed to be getting worse.. Getting low cards on my double downs with max bets out in high counts.. Shuffle time.. Not getting any better. The other player at the table is getting killed too.

Now I asked the dealer, are these new cards ? These are new cards, aren't they? How come you didn't display them on the table? His reply was, "the cards are good. The supervisor all checked the cards. " I kept on asking him.. over and over about this in different ways, but his reply was the same. Now I realized, that the PB had probably replaced the cards with other decks in the middle of the game.

This is especially strange because every other time, new decks were introduced here i've always got to see all the cards spread out on the table.

I got up and left and headed to the only other double deck table available. I asked my new dealer, when introducing new decks into the game, if she always displayed the cards on the table for everyone to see. She said, "Yes, that's mandatory". I explained what had happened and she told me that I should complain to management. I decided not to complain as I didn't think it would help. About 5 minutes after playing on the new table the auto-shuffler breaks down. Just to clarify these are not CSM machines. The PB tells everyone "Come back in about 20 minutes" "Were going to replace the machine and replace the cards" Though, I'm not going anywhere. I Will make sure I see the cards if I'm going to play again. After about 30 minutes, we're ready to roll again. The new machine was installed and new cards and got to see them all.

Now time goes by.... and I'm there for a long time but the heat is very low. It's 5:00 a.m. and i've won most of my money back.

It's time again to change the cards.. The PB comes over and puts the new decks in the machine and removes the old decks. "Umm.. don't you have to display the cards on the table first ?", I asked the dealer. He replies, "No, they went through the cards already, sometimes they do that". Sometimes ?

Meanwhile, the other dealer who told me it was mandatory has been gone for awhile. Of coarse, I wasn't going to play another hand without seeing the cards first. Believe it not, it was a full table at 5:00 a.m. with a few standing around watching too. I sat in my seat and just watched. After about 5 to 10 minutes of watching and not playing, a very attractive lady, dressed very sexy, comes up behind me and starts asking me questions about how to play this game while being very touchy feely. Apparently, she claimed she has never seen hand dealt blackjack games before. Now, this isn't a vegas casino that's normally filled with working girls. I'm sure every place has it's share at times although, I've been coming here for years and never been approached by someone like this. On the other hand, I did have a couple stacks of black on the table which they can probably smell somehow from across the room.

Either, she was a normal working girl or I guess maybe casino spy?

At this point, someone asks me.. "If you not going to play can I sit down and play" "Sure, I'm finished" I reply. I decided to back count a little. A few minutes later the PB announces this table will be shut down in 20 minutes and can resume play on the other double deck table.

I decided it was time for me to leave. It was a strange night. Now feeling a little suspicious about this local store.

What do you guy think? It is a casino regulated by the state. Isn't it a mandated law to display the cards from new decks ?

Hmm that is strange. Here's my two thoughts and others know way more:

1) I have heard of casinos doing this before, but usually outside of the U.S. and in the instance I am referring to they just had not heard of the practice and started doing it when asked.

2) As for the girl approaching you, that happened to a friend of mine at Mohegan Sun in CT. It was around 5am and she walks by, sees my friend's large amount of green chips and says "Are you Winning?" and sits down next to him.

He says "There are two open seats at the other end" and she says "Yeah but I wanna sit here". Claims she has no idea how to play and takes honestly 30 seconds to decide she wants to hit a 6. The Dealer was smiling the whole time as she obviously knew.

Don't worry about the girl, worry about the cards....do go to the gaming commish, they must show the new cards.

Glad you are winning good!

Most, but not ALL gaming jurisdictions are required by law to show you the cards. A phone call to your local gaming commission will provide the answer.

There are all sorts of hustlers that will appear when you have a valuable stack in front of you. Whether she was a prostitute or not isn't really important - she could have just been trying to get you to tip her a couple of chips. Be careful..

As Johndoe said, she might have been just looking for handouts - I've had that happen quite a few times. The casino wouldn't bother with a "spy". If you're betting big sometimes then the last thing they'd want to do is slow you down and if they think you're counting they just back you off.
