Going to LV in a months time (apparently it will be very hot) and I'm going with my uncle and his kids (my cousins) One of them is 14 and the other is 12 and I've heard that Circus Circus is great for families. Anyone got any recommendations on family hotels, and any info on the blackjack rules there? Also, I heard there is a kids' casino, can anyone elaborate on that?

A kids casino? I haven't ever heard of anything close to that possibly you are referring to an arcade or carnival games? There are some fun things for kids at the New York New York and at the Excalibur. In terms of the Circus Circus, though it is very very ghetto. In my opinion it is dirty and dingy. Prepare to be in the minority if you are not Hispanic. Honestly all of the MGM Mirage affiliate properties are very child friendly. Hell send them out to the pool at the Mirage and I will make sure they don't drown.

Circus Circus is quite family friendly.It has an amusement park ,a floor of arcade and carnival games and some fun circus acts every half hour or so.
Its a bit worn,but I wouldn't call it dirty.Never noticed Hispanics being the majority there,but I can't say I'd care.
The Slots of Fun annex has very good BJ rules,best lo-roller game on the strip.

About the kids casino, a friend said his son played in one, but he couldn't remember the name of the hotel. I suggested Circus Circus and he seemed pretty sure that that was it so who knows, I'll have to check it out myself

My wife loves the $1 craps. $3 BJ 24/7 and I believe $1 BJ after midnight. As you might expect, not a high-rollin crowd. Anybody had the half pound hotdog?

At first bite,it was pretty good,but about halfway thru things went south.I ended up throwing away the last bit of it,which was a pretty sizeable amount. I remember thinking "what kind of meat can they sell 3/4 of a pound for 99 cents?"

The key approach is to be thinking, what kind of meat can they sell 3/4 pound for 99 cents before you buy and not after. But fortunately for you, you did not finish it which may be the only reason you are still with us today.

The Suncoast has an excellent dollar hotdog, sold from a cart in the sportsbook. Not sure of the size, though.

By the way, the best thing about CC is the steakhouse, which is very good and much cheaper than the typical Vegas carnivore joint. Of course, you actually have to walk through the CC casino to get there, but that's the only downside.

I agree that CC is a good choice for families. It's a terrible choice for any other party, unless you get a flyer in the mail and are needing a free room.

As a rule of thumb,a package of Nathans hotdogs contains 8 dogs and weighs 1 pound,so the usual dog is 1/8 of a pound or two ounces.

Not sure how the blackjack is now, last time I was there was two years ago. Only fair rules then. The most memorable part of the play for me was the first night. The names of three consecutive dealers that night were, in order, I kid you not...........Dang, Shrek, and JuJu.

Here's one from the way-back machine... Circus-Circus used to have an RV park on-site back in the 80's, and maybe even the late 70's. Gawd awful heat in the summer in a tin-can on bituminous. I do distinctly remember one gent telling me his trip expenses to be recovered included two trailer tires. Quite an ingenious way to keep you around in Vegas with the kiddies... NOT.

I think the RV park is still there. I stayed at CC last summer. Cheap, not horrible, but a bit dumpy. Room was fine though.

BJ game wasn't great, usual strip rules/pen, but no surrender.

I'm not sure if "kid's gambling arena" is the correct term to use. But there is an area where kids (and adults) can play games to win prizes, similar to what you'd find at a carnival. You know, pay money to throw balls into a hole in order to win a teddy bear, and things like that.
