Counting in your head..

how do you guys do it , when you start counting through the negative numbers ?

1,2,3,4,5 is easy...but once I start going negative, it feels like more of a hassle saying in my head "negative 1 , negative 2 , negative 3"

what are some good shorter sayings for these ?

I say MINUS 1, etc. zg

Me too. I rarely need to go past minus 5, as I usually get up around that point.

I use "M1, M2, etc." It might sound silly, but it's far less mentally draining than "minus 1" or "negative 1." Over the course of a long playing day, I guarantee it will prevent a fair amount of mental fatigue.

I like to use something called "practice." or if you must, M1, M2, or neg 1, neg 2, etc.

btw, Uno is two syllables. so is cuatro, cinco, ocho, diez. and they can come with more than 2 sometimes. also, it's spelled, dos, and tres.

I finally found that visualizing the number line worked great for me. I even went so far as to slightly tilt my head ( the one on my shoulders :eek: ) left when accounting for negative numbers. No problemo no mas. Just keep that graphic in your mind and it seems to smooth the counting... for me anyway. :grin:
P.S. don't tilt to far... they think your drunk !:laugh:

I usually just count, 123432101234 etc. Every pause in the action I throw in a plus or minus to keep it straight. You can count much faster without adding the plus or minus every time. Without much effort you should know if it's plus or minus. If it's constantly around zero I will use plus or minus more often....JtMM:cool:

I would agree with mathman; when you get fast, it is completely unnecessary to add the "minus," "negative," or what have you every single time.

When I do account for the negative number, I mentally say "mi" (sounds like "my"). In practice, I'd be saying mi-7, mi-9, mi-11 and etc. However, counting negative numbers is not that important, since you should probably be wonging out before the RC gets too large and negative. I got the idea from a book by Kevin Blackwood. Initially, I always said the three syllable "negative," but this got cumbersome quite quickly.

Start at one hundred. Or Fifty. Even ten. Just adjust everything accordingly.
We had a guy come on last year and complain about how the counts were getting so big but he kept losing. After a few posts, it was obvious he was using the running count, and not converting it.
If you would be betting one unit at zero and eight at plus six, just change that to ten and sixteen, as an example.

Do you count each card individually, or do you take them in pairs, then add in any additional cards the dealer uses?

I've just about managed to accurately count down a pack of card correctly each time (although the time it takes me both the hare and the tortuous would have finished the race), but I can do it much quicker doing two cards at a time, as quite a lot cancel each other out. Just wondered what you guys did?

I went to a casino last night just to see how tough it was, they had CSM, and made a 275% profit, and I managed to question the dealer, who was questioning herself (she stood on a S17, then hit and bust anyway), and I pointed to the felt which said stands 17, must hit 16. Unfortunately the cards she had dealt me covered the , and soft 17, so the pit came over and watched, then asked "have you got your player card with you tonight?" so I gave it over, and probably already have a mark for being a pain in the bum!
Heyho, I'll never count there obviously with CSM, but it was good watching him watch me more and more closely as I coloured up stack after stack hehe :)
