Counting Practice. Few questions before first outting.

Alright, I have been practicing for the last 2 weeks and I am currently practicing on my dining room table with my girlfriend dealing to me. It's setup to where she deals three player hands and I bet on the middle one with the others having no bets at all. I play every players hand while trying my best to keep count with two decks, because this is what I am going to be playing when I go for my first time out.

My questions are about my betting. The table I plan to play on is a ten dollar min. and I plan on sitting at the table with $500 for my first time out. When I practice here at home I bet 25 when I first sit down and then cut it down to 15 as the count gets low but as it goes up around 1 to 2 I drive it up to around 30 to 40 and then if the count is above that I want to go to around 50 or 60. Is this going to get me bad attention at the tables? Also, is this not the correct betting strategy due to the fact that I cannot understand the betting schemes at all after reading a few books and researching endlessly the betting is the only part I do not understand.

If someone on this forum could give me their opinions and help about this betting stuff I would appreciate it immensely.

Thanks in advance.

Lets say you go with your $500 and after 30 minutes, you are down $30. The count goes high and you bet $40 and lose but the count goes higher. You put out $50 and get a pair of 8s. you split them and now have $100 on the board.
Your first 8 draws a three and you have to double down-the count is pretty high. Your other 8 draws yet another 8, so you split once more. Damn, now you have over 50% of your money invested and you still have a long way to go. What happens when you draw anther 2, 3 or 8 on these split eights?
Moral of the story- You can't be betting $50 when you have a $500 Bankroll. Your risk of getting bit on the ass is just too high.

Thanks. I am now reading Modern Blackjack and its helping me a lot. I just still cannot pick up on how I should bet. The EV thing has me completely confused and it is making it hard to make sure I have a good plan before going out.

Shadroch how much should you sit down with? I've read that your bankroll should at least be 1000 times your betting unit. Is that correct? Surely you don't sit down at a ten dollar min table and whip out 10g's...I feel like that would attract some heat?

If your lowest bet is $15 and your highest bet is $60; that's only a four to one spread. You'll not only generate very little heat by doing this, you'll also generate very little (if any) profit.

A common agreement is your BR should be 1000x your betting unit.

BUT just because your BR is 1000x, doesn't mean you should buy in with your entire BR!!

Thanks dye...I thought that bringing your whole BR to the table seemed absurd...just making sure I wasn't missing something haha
