Counting without Looking

If the dealer is announcing each player's hand total as she deal extra cards, it is possible to maintain the RC without looking at the table.

For example, if I know the player next to me has a stiff 12, and the dealer deals a card and announces the total of 17, the card dealt was a 5 and I should add 1 to the RC.

Do any of you count this way? Is it worth the trouble?

Yes, I have started to use this concept but not all dealers will announce the totals or / and some dealers hardly talk at all. It kind of keeps your brain from being in overdrive and your eyes going buggy!

And even if they do announce totals every time, they might not do it consistently when the player busts, instead they may say something generic like "too many." So you're left to wonder if a 6 or a 10 busted the player's 16 if you're not looking.

Certainly, I agree. I don't incorporate this 100% of the time. It just gives me a little break on occassion when I am able to take advantage and utelize it. And I do look at the total of my hand and the dealers prior to the dealer picking them up. I do NOT trust the dealers to add correctly, pay off correctly, etc!

Have a great day everyone ;)
