While I was at store yesterday that I visit once a month or so and being the polite person that I am by trying to carry a conversation and just being friendly to the dealers and pb's for cover play...well I had a nice friendly elderly lady dealer ask me my name and of course my head was in the game and I blurted out my first name...ooops.

The same thing happened on another shift as well. Then one pit boss asked me if I had a card and I said "no thank you", well "would you like me to get you a card" and I say "no thank you" again and then he asks me why I don't want one. What I wanted to say was "back the eff off and leave me the hell alone" but politely I stated that I am not from the area and don't visit often. Man, I think I just blew my whole incognito plan and might have to legally change my name..maybe easier just to get a new husband, younger of course, lol, lol:grin: :laugh:

I would not worry at all about what you described. I often play with my card, so the casinos know my full name, where I live, etc., I mentioned before, one casino I play at, if I don't give them my card, sometimes they'll just enter my name in the system anyway, as some of them remember it.

You came up with a good excuse for not giving one. Other good ones I heard:

"I don't need anyone tracking what I do with my money" (helps if you have a criminal-ly look about you)
"I don't use a card, I don't need my wife/husband to see the mailers"
"Whats the point, the comps here suck anyway"

There's a pit critter who knows I use a card that's not mine. The first time I used it with him he just asked to see my card again because he thought I got put in wrong, then once he realized I was doing it intentionally he didn't care.

My cards say I'm a hole carder, so I don't use them. (He doesn't know that's why I'm using a fake name of course, and he's just not really motivated to find out why I'm using a fake name.)

It's not that big a deal to hide your identity. although strangely, I have seen ploppies refuse cards, and refuse to give first names. It doesn't sound like you play in vegas, and it doesn't sound like you visit sweaty joints, so having a card can be a great asset. read up on comp hustling, free money, free RFB, free play, etc. sometimes even getting a card will inadvertently take heat off of you. although you are female, I don't think you'd get much heat to begin with.

but...lines I've used when I didn't want to get a card for one reason or another.

"You want my ID for a players card?! what the **** do you need my ID for? I've got a subway sandwich card, and they never asked me for ID to get my free sandwich! flail your arms wildly and yell this out.

Unless you've already been backed off at that property there's really no reason not to get a players card and use it. And don't be afraid to use your real name either. Not using a card and not revealing your name just makes you look guilty IMO.

Is getting a few dollars in comps worth risk of revealing your true identity? Guess that depends on were you are playing at. Maybe if your playing red chips in a locals joint. But when you start moving up in bet sizes and max bets, your play will be watched more closely. And if you are deemed a threat, in most places you will soon get the tap. If comps are that important to you then you better have a good act. And that is something that I need to work on.

Since playing chunky green to lite black the last few years I don't think comps are worth it.

If you think that you blew your cover you probablly did. If this joint is or is going to be your regular place of play take a break for a long time then when you go back get a card without hesitation. Trying to play at a place without a card with any frequency is a flag anyways. It's alright to play unrated at places you don't plan on playing again for a good long time but once a month doesn't fall into the category of infrequent.

I don't think the OP is playing at anywhere near that level. And I'm quite certain that the only reason I haven't been banned at a certain store where I play regularly (as nearly everyone else has been) is because I use my players card and don't try to hide who I am. Failure to show a players card seems to be a red flag, at least at the joint in question.

Passing up valuable comps is a red flag to the pit. Many times it doesn't amount to anything but they will probably monitor your play more closely without a card. It is one of the things that are more often done by APs than others. You should avoid as many stereotypical AP behaviors as possible. Its also a good idea to play a strong enough counting system in a good enough game that a smaller spread is sufficiently effective. This is the best cover play of all. If the count ever goes of the charts put out the really big bets and then leave win or lose. Accompany this with a look at your watch and saying you have to be somewhere since you know you are going to leave anyway and you look like a gambler trying to make a quick score before she leaves.

The dilema I have with playing rated is that I don't want to burn out my stores while I build my skillz and my bankroll. So far, I believe I have played the cat and mouse game pretty well. I hate to lose, so booking intentional losses is tough! In order to avoid this, A wise friend has taught me the fine art of Rat Holing! Thank you my friend!

So for now, I play rated, try to disguise my bet spread, and watch my demeanor at the tables.

After that every time they make the occasional accounting of missing chips at the table they will be added to your total every time. The dealer makes the call were the chips went with the pit bosses input. They have to assign it somewhere. The last thing you want is to be a known ratholer. Your win rate in their system will end up much higher than your actual win rate because every missing chip if you played since the last check will automatically be assessed to you whether it is in your pocket or not.

True, that is something to be cognizant of, and take extream measures to avoid. However, descrete rat holing can be done.

"burn out" at a store is because people there know you as an AP.

If you burn out a player card you always have the future option of playing as a refusal/diff card, it's the people who remember you got backed off that are the problem.

Which supports the idea of not hitting the same store too often. Keep a log of stores visited and details of those visits. :eyepatch:
