Deck penetration

for a 6 deck game

Is the general consensus;

75% or more is a good game ( if the dealer cuts off 1.5 decks or less)

If less than 75% then the game is bad (if the dealer cuts off more than 1.5 decks)

Is this a good general rule?

Depends on rules. After getting backed off from most of the joints in Medellin San Fernando casino continued to tolerate my play probably because they wanted me there to help start poker games but with a half shoe. 3/6 sounds like a terrible game but with full early surrender and an initial house advantage of less than .1% I didn't mind it one bit. So rules can matter almost as much as penetration because you will get much higher player advantages at lower true counts with a liberal rule set. But yes as a general rule 1.5 decks out of 6 is a good game, 1 deck cut off out of 6 is a great game. It is definitely worth while to scout extensively to find the best games you can, great penetration games are quite profitable and it is also a pleasure to find yourself in relatively esoteric situations and pulling out an obscure index play (double 8 v 3 or 7 v 6, for example) as can happen in deeply cut games.

I'll never forget the look of horror on the cute dealer's face the one time I made that play (doubling 7 vs 6). I lost the hand and the four hundred bucks I wagered on it (counting the double), but I ended up killing it that day, playing for 4 or 5 hours continuously mostly heads up play, winning I think around 3 or 4 grand before security literally kicked me out of the casino not even backing me off just kicking me out for the rest of day. That was the weirdest counter measure I've experienced. Like why wouldn't they just back me off? But they didn't they just gave me the boot and the e-mail address of someone I could contact; presumably it would be okay for me to return in the future. Foolishly I gave them my ID so I'll probably get backed off if I ever return, but it was way out in the middle of nowhere so I didn't really care.
