I play at a casino which offers unfavorable odds even for card counters to get an edge over the dealer during a shoe, but even with these preventions in place, like many casinos have done by burning three cards, or ending the shoe with one deck still left in the box, a player can still get an advantage. Also at the places i play the dealer will cover the front plate of the shoe with an extended palm to prevent an observation for the true count, yet it really does nothing to prevent the count when the palm falls for cards to fly into action.
Hi-lo is not as good for sixdecks as unbalanced systems like Red Seven. Also utilizing the latter is the quickest way for a player to be recognized as a counter by a pitboss, and depending on the bets youre placing on the table, lets say nearing the table max or over 150 dollars when the count is good, you have a good chance of being backed off like Ben Affleck from the game or even banned from playing.
1.Red Seven is really good for sixdeck, but i modified it to ease counting difficulties. My strategy, I assign a one plus value to small cards: 2,3,4,5,6,7, an even count of zero for 8,9, and a negative one for the big cards 10,J,Q,K,A. At the start of every shoe I start at -13, then count the cards in pairs, rarely utilizing a true count observation because of the preventive measures caused by a dealers blocking hand. Usually the count gets into the positive at the middle of the shoe. With a bankroll of 300 dollars, my bet spread is 10 for negative counts, 20 for plus 2, 40 for plus six, and 60 for plus ten and above.
2. Ace Five Count. While utilizing my modified Red Seven Strategy, I also count the aces and fives that come out hoping to get either a blackjack or helpful ace. The count starts at zero and a plus one is assigned for every five that comes out, and a negative one for each ace. At plus 2, I increase my bet to 20 dollars, hoping for a blackjack, at plus 4 I increase it to 30 wager, because of the huge chance of either landing a blackjack or two aces.
3. Modified strategy. When the count is negative or positive it is good to deviate from basic strategy, especially in a game where it's only you versus dealer. People who play against basic strategy can ruin your game, regardless if you're a good counter, so it's best for counters to arrive at casino late at night to play one on one against dealer.
A. When the count is negative, hit a 15 versus a 7, but when the count is positive and above even, 0, STAND on 15. This strategy is very accurate and relative to the count and shuffle variances of a shoe, ending up with the dealer usually having NOTHING underneath the 7, with a great chance of busting if you don't draw the 10 that will BUST you! More times than not the card I would have drawn to bust myself will bust his 15 or 16, once he flashes a hole card of either 8 or 9.
b. When the count is negative hit 16 versus a dealers ten, but above plus 4, STAND, and let the card that busts you Bust the dealer. There is a huge chance of busting a 16 in the positive counts, when the deck is rich with high cards, so with this in mind, you have greater chances of winning by relying on the chance there is nothing underneath dealers ten, but if there is, you would have lost the hand either way.
c. If the dealer has a ten and you get three aces after splitting a pair of aces, hit rather than split the third ace, only IF, neither of two pairs made a hand of twenty or more. Sometimes you won't get this chance, like when you split two aces, and are landed with another ace, or even more aces in sequence. It's pretty tragic to split 3 or even more aces, with huge bets on them, when they don't make hands against a dealers 20. I've heard of crazy gambling stories in Vegas that ended tragically because one split more than two aces against a dealers 20.
d. When the count is negative, hit rather than split 8s, against a dealers 9, 10, or Ace. When it's positive count, and relative to your bankroll situation, like if you're NOT in survival mode playing with only your last few chips, SPLIT 8s, but if you're only surviving, STAND.
e. If you split three cards against a dealers 2,3,4,5,6, but don't make a hard hand above 17 on either, hit again on the third or fourth split card to make or bust that hand. More than likely you will take the small card to make at least one hard hand that could have made the dealers defeating hand that would have won over all of your split cards! If you split two small cards and are given ten's or face cards, hit one more time on second hand, ONLY if the count is NEGATIVE. You will save a ton of money on splits by hitting one more time on that 3rd or 4th split card.
f. Don't double a 8 or 9 against a dealers 2,3,4, rather hit, ONLY double a 11 against a 10 or Ace, if the card count is positive.
g. ONLY insure a player's twenty against a dealers blackjack.
h. Don't play the sidebets, most of them are sucker bets, EXCEPT for the push bet that pays out 10 to 1 if your hand ties with the dealer. But when playing the push bet, bet conservatively with only one to two dollar chips. If you win, you win twenty dollars for a measly 2 dollar sidebet. And if you push with a dealers blackjack after requesting even money, you get TWO payouts!
Make sure to set a 40 minute buzzer alarm on your cellphone and put it in your pocket as soon as you enter a casino. When it starts buzzing after forty minutes see where you are in your game. Have you doubled your money? If so, CASHOUT AND LEAVE THE CASINO. Are you down? SWITCH TABLES! Are you really down? LEAVE THE CASINO immediately before they take everything.
