Do you tell people you're an AP?

I was sitting at a BJ table about a year ago...seeing how hard it would be to count cards (just a test/sample run). I must have been keeping a good count because the guy next to me kept betting when the count was high and sitting out while the count was low/negative. He asked the dealer if he cared if he was counting, he said no, at least not at the 5$ tables. I laughed. (But wasn't too happy the guy beside me was getting all the BJ's and I was getting the bad-end of the stick. >_>)

I once asked a shift mgr if he minded me playing at his place. He said yes. So I avoided his shift.

Only reason I asked him is we recognized eacdh other as APs at another casino (we were playing the same table). Saw him a bunch of times, got chatty, etc. Then one day, I walked into his casino during his shift and saw him in the pit wearing a suit. My jaw almost hit the floor. He saw me, came over, offered his hand, after which I said, "I was just leaving." He laughed and we remained friends. He never spilled the beans on me. Fortunately, he moved to another casino venue a couple of years later.

When I play Hold 'em, I find it best to turn my cards over so everyone can see them while I play. They don't seem to mind.

I don't support myself playing blackjack and I don't even tell most people I play BJ at all. The ones who know I play at all just know I love to play.

My husband could be an AP if he wanted but he doesn't want. He knows, but he worries about negative variance - he's well aware that even with an advantage, players won't win all the time and the negative swing could be long and deep. I think he pictures me going thousands into debt, when my only goal when I go to LV is to get away from my desk/computer, have some fun and make at least my expenses.

In my family, walking into a casino is right under murder and adultery in terms of sin, so I don't even tell them - it saves the lectures on the wages of sin and the dangers of leaving all your money at the casino.

marketing

The casinos have been able to somewhat portray us as cheats. the movie 21 seemed to portray us as slime who live dangerous lives. Just ask Steve Forte his thoughts.

Now poker seems somewhat glamorous because casinos like the rake & entry fees. They like the players. Though I think the WSOP could be helped with a dress code. Also, we know there are poker players who have made a lot of money. Other APs have less known success.

So poker player may be thought acceptable whereas a counter/other may be frowned upon.

It's funny a poker player takes money from other people
A counter takes money from casinos

I agree, best not to tell. I guess the spouse needs to know. At least wait until your up!;)

Also, as far as reporting results to spouses. All play is continuous! Can report so wins cover losses. One can even manipulate sessions, stop when ahead, play on when down, just not to long in same place when down.
