I am leaving soon to LV for the first of what will hopefully be many successful wonging trips in 2009. I have not booked the hotel yet but based on the prices and promos I have found Excalibur is the best for location, price, and quality of the room. From what I have heard MGM properties aren't very good for comps though and their games really sucked last time I went in there, which was about 6 months ago. I think they had all CSM's even?? Is it worth paying more to go to another casino with better comps and a playable game so I can put some time in there to get comped? Is it better in the long run just to book the cheapest you can tolerate?(what I have always done) I heard Harrahs comps well, any other suggestions?? Does it pay to get a players card at casinos that you are wonging at or not a good idea?? Do you get comps or points just for staying there?? I have never had a players card I just kind of wanted to stay under the radar but I never played that much either.

I'm not sure of your criteria, but coming up with Excaliber is strange.
I also think you are confusing automatic shuffle machines for continuos shuffle machines.
If you will be back in Vegas in the next few months, Harrahs has a great promo. Sign up for a card, play and lose $100 and they mail you a voucher for $100 in cash next visit. Cash that within six months and you are in their marketing system. Expect numerous free nite offers.
Planet Hollywood,Hooters , and I believe Tropicana are all giving $25 matchplays for signing up for cards. Hooters is great for comp rooms. There are a bunch of benefits for signing up at many other casinos. Casino Royale and Ventian both give decent free slot play. Venetian has a very strong new members promo thru Feb 15th. They may extend it.

Unless things have changed GREATLY (I know H17 has started creeping in), MGM properties are generally the best rules on the Strip. Harrah's is much worse for blackjack.

In general, Harrahs treats slots players better and MGM has better blackjack rules.

The Excalibur is a very reasonable place to stay. I wouldn't gamble there though.

Get an MGM players card and play at MGM or Mandalay Bay. Both have tons of S17, LS, RSA 6 deck games. Before you check out of the Excalibur, stop at a players club booth and ask if they can reduce your room rate.

MGM doesn't care where you play. Play in any of their casinos is equivalent to play in the Excalibur. There's no reason to play blackjack at the Excalibur, given the superior games in the neighboring MGM casinos.

MGM comps fairly well for blackjack play. Harrah's comps TERRIBLY for table games.


If your max bet is under $300, then I personally think the value of the comps FAR outweighs the benefits of playing anonymously.

Please Teach me the Way! I will be playing $25-$200 wonging out at TC<+1 though and trying to wong in around TC>2. That's the plan. I have been to Vegas many times usually for free from AMEX points but I am starting to get the cash rewards instead due to tough times. Will it F up my comps moving tables or do I just have to check back in or what? Never had a card so I don't know how it works..

If you're wonging, forget the comps. You do not want the attention, and you won't sit down long enough to get comps.

If you need comps and can only play shoes, wong into a $10 table with like a $100 bet (because the count warrants it) and get rated.

Then spread 10-200, wonging out at -2 or so. They'll probably get you down as a $100 bettor, but you'll be playing a strong enough game for your bankroll.
