Today I was thinking about a move that is obviously wrong in most cases: standing with 11 or less (or a soft hand of 16 or less). Are there any special cases where that would indeed be the right play?

Yes, when the dealer's up card + down card = hard 12 - 16 and the next card is a bust card.
That would be a correct situation to stand.
Another situation where you stand with < 12 is when you're playing at 3rd base in a next card game and the next card is a 10 vs a dealer bust card, in which case you're playing to optimize the BP's bets, not your own.

Only if you have knowledge of cards that are normally unknown, for instance, if you know the dealer has 16 and the next card is a 10, but if the next two cards are 10's, then you would double down. Isn't this really a silly question? Think about it. By the way, if you know the next four cards are 6, 10, 6, 10, I'd split those 5's, if I were you.neversplit5s said:

I stood on 10 vs. 2 once with a minimum bet out to set up a BJ on the next hand (max bet that one obv). But yes, you need good information to make it the correct play. Otherwise it would always be wrong.

Woman sits down and asks what the various chip colors means. Firist hand, she stays on 4,3 vs 10. Next hand she hit 10,7 vs dealer 6. Everyone left but me. Her three friends sat down and the bunch of them played near perfect BJ for the rest of the night. I can't imagine anything less than someone with a thirty day stank to them clearing a table more effectively.

The only time similar to this may be surrendering. Hard 6 at ridiculous and insane TCs
Having hands of 9 10 and 11 are good hands to have, they are the hands that most often make you monry back that you lose on shitty hands, if you fail to maximise their ev by taking cards, you will hurt yourself.
The only exceptions would involve knowing what the next card is and knowing that it would result in you winning, a second hand by say doubling down, or winning by passing it to the dealer.

I'm convinced people have done this to me to try to get me to leave, because I always "take the dealer's bust card" and mess up their hand.tensplitter said:

Not that I disagree about you wanting to find ways to clear the table, but I just have a personal vendetta against people who blow smoke in my face and I don't think a ploppy deserves to have that done to them.

Yeah when the dealer gets blackjack and flips it over and takes all the money anyway that is when I stand when I have less than 12. If the dealer doesn't have I blackjack I hit or double with 11 or less. Or soft 17 or less.
