First back off

Well everone, thank you for all the insight provided from each of you here. I am happy to say I got backed off for the first time at The Siena in Reno tonight. I must be learning something and exersising what I learn properly. Funny thing is a few times I lost count and was guessing. I guess I was guessing right.

How much where you up?

I was just wondering how much you where up? How much you where spreading when you got barred?
Do you think in a go for your own place that the dealer would have more incentive to tell the pit about a card counter?

I sat down with $100 and was only up $50. I was spreading 1:4 and raising to 4 units on a +4 on a single deck. I dont the dealer wouldnt tell the pit boss anything. Although she was the second dealer I had and she was fast.

Backed off at the Siena? No way! Next you'll be telling us you got a bad drink and a dealer who couldn't speak English at Circus Circus.

Just kidding, welcome to the club! Expect a backoff there after a half hour no matter who you are or what you do. They're not a-holes about it though; Reno does so much backing off even at low stakes they know there is no benefit for them to be uncivil about it.

They were nice about it. They just said it was time to take my chips to the cage and said I knew why.

In hindsight, I feel like quite a champ for making it over an hour with a 1-10 spread!

How crowded was it while you were there? And also, congratulations.

"Inside" the Siena

I just got back from a "glorious" week at the Siena. On the house, RFB, Comped my room and upgraded to a suite. I'm also up beaucoup bucks there. How? Don't get greedy.Several things I learned about this place is that they all relatively new and need to build up their customer base, they want to be different than the "big guys" ala Circus, Legacy and El Dorado, but they ARE PARANOID about card counters. The first thing a CC does is make a bee line to the BJ tables...first tip-off...don't do it. Last time a had a $100 in match play and went straight to the roulette wheel (single "0") hit one of my #'s in the first 5 spins and decided to stay a while until I broke even or got bored. After about 45 mins. I went over to the craps table and used my second match play on the crap table, bet field roll with 2X-3X(-2.77%) played there another half hour and was up another $50. Then, after up a $100 I went over to play BJ. It's like going to bed with J. Lo(or Oparah?), you need foreplay and then enjoy the moment. Their house policy is 2/3 deck so you can't get too greedy too fast. Play the first 2 or 3 decks just using BS while you BS with the PB or dealer. Once your're "off"the radar you can go 1-4 or 2-1-5/6 and make your strike. Keep it under an hour, use your River Card and you should be fine. Then make tracks to the Atlantis or wherever. Point being, their comps are much more valuable than +EV you can get from straight BJ at $5-10 min. level.
Final word of wisdom. Do NOT play there when the pit is slow!

Steve is the PB for the day shift. He looks like he should be the MC for a game show. Steve also has a negative attitude towards aquatic mammals spreading 1:10 on his SD BJ games right in front of him while using the River Card, BTW, he says hi!

I don't play high, only $10 to $50 and occasionally as much as $75 in an AC 8-deck game. I play for like 12 of 15 hours each night I go and never get backed off. My three sessions won $550, $1300, and $300. I think they just don't care about people who grind it out for hours on an 8-deck game. I do have a good act though. Talk a lot to dealers and customers, bet all over the place for cover at selected times. I act like I'm chasing my money as I ramp up (and sometimes I am!) and try to leave sessions like I lost or broke even. When I won the $1,300 the dealer at that time saw me put my last chips on a losing hand (he thought they were my last chips) and tried to console me as I walked dejectedly away. As soon as I got out of sight I changed to "Yipee!!!" (I wonder if those eyes in the sky caught me clicking my heels together?). Of course not. They just don't care about a grinder on an 8-deck table.

Yes, pretty much

You don't always have to start with 1 Unit, just mix it up enough to avoid making too much of a pattern. If I start with 1U twice, I will start with 2U about every third time (approx). I mix up that pattern also and recalculate my BR to reflect the new spread. In short, if you alternate your opening bet, just consider it as a $7.50 initial bet on a $5 table.

when playing SD i almost always start off with 2 units. then drop down to 1 unit if the count goes negative, or get up to 4/5 units when the count hits +4.

i also use this same strategy in shoe games where the table mins are really low and the house EV is under .35 and i can't table hop.

"I think you know why" sounded familiar
"I saw what you did and I know who you are". =)

They just need to say "I think you know why" and the guilty will take care of themselves. And if someone isn't doing anything, maybe there's something else they were doing that they're guilty of. And if there isn't, maybe they will think they were doing something without even knowing it.

And if the player questions "why", there's always a sound beating by the river.

Matchplay

A have caculated with the even money matchplay coupons betting on Red or Black with the coupon has a better EV than playing blackjack with coupons even if you are world class blackjack player. For one if you get a blackjack with the even money coupon the coupon is only paid even money. Two you can't double down the value of your coupon as well. On Roulette there are no ties and no blackjacks if you bet on Red or black with the coupon you give your self the best chance to win. Since it is an even money coupon betting on a number or a section of 12 is stupid.

First time counting . . .

So yeah, I was playing as the Siena and got backed off for rookie OK counting, playing $5, with a 1:2 unit swing. I only started with a $100, and was down $25 when the pit boss came over and said something along the lines of security has detected you're counting, you're welcome to play any of the other games, but no more blackjack. Granted, I wasn't camouflaging or anything, but I was under the impression most of the casinos wouldn't sweat a 5/10 player . . . ah well . . .

Assuming that you get to keep the match play coupon in the event of a tie, like if u played BJ or craps, I'd say either of those probably have a better EV. With the don't pass bet in craps having the edge over BJ.
