friendships with casino personel

I have developed not really a friendship, but more of an acquaintaceship with an AC dealer that I fear is going bad. It started about 5 years ago at Het property. I was playing a table with some hicks from the midwest. (no offense CP) lol Real rube types with that minnesota twang, and saying yahhh all the time like in the movie fargo. Anyways, this dealer tells the couple who were losing steadily that they may want to increase their wagers at the same time i do, when the good cards were due to come out. I was horrified and avoided him for quite some time. Eventually I played with him again and he never made another card counting reference at the table. I spoke with him on the train one day when he told me that he had tried counting cards for a year before becoming a dealer, but it just doesn't work in the long run.

Anyway, I didn't see him for a couple years as I began avoiding HET properties when they went anti-blackjack. A couple months ago he showed up dealing at my fav AC stores. I have played with him half dozen times with since no problems. Yesterday on the train he sits next to me and begins a discussion about how I am a drain on the economy, not contributing to the making of any products or providing a service. He said I was taking money that the casinos could use to employ more people.

I counter that the tiny amount of earning that I am restributing from the casino to myself, would not be used to hire more people or pay them more but rather would bulk up some execs bonus package. That I am acually creating a "demand" which enables them to hire additional personel.

Anyway, of course this argument went no where, but he seemed to have such an attitude about him afterwards, that I feel I need to avoid him or my play at this my favorite house in AC could be in jeopardy.

I always knew no good could come from being to friendly to other side. Lesson learned and confirmed.

Thats a shame, but my experiances have been quite the opposite.
I met a guy who turned out to be a pitboss while playing pool in AC. He was a regular who stopped in after his shift and we got friendly. One day I am passing thru Ballys on my way to check in at the Sands. I see him and stop to say hello. He asks me if I have a Ballys card and when I say yes, he says give it to him for a second. As I'd not played much BJ at Ballys( This was pre- Harrahs, pre Caesars) I give it to him. He swipes it and says check your status in a few hours. He ended up crediting me for some player who lost 2,000 playing craps. I got 2 free dinners and my offers got a lot better.
I've been to several parties at his home, most recently his youngest daughters First Communion.
I used to stop by a now defunct bar that was frequented by many a casino employee and nurtured several friendships. A girl from the Hiltons Player Development got me a week free at the LV Hilton before I built my own connections.
I'd tell this clown to F..K Off or you'll mention to your host an employee of his is hassling you.

Seriously, though, I wouldn't consider our accent to have a "twang."

You could have a major problem there, that guy sounds like a real Jack Ass
and a dangerous one at that.

Stay clear of him, but I do like Shads suggestion...preemption!

If it's in the place I think it is, that shouldn't be a problem. There are times I've had to play in only one of the 4 pits because of familiar faces.

I am not going to do that. In hindsight, even posting the story was a bad idea, as being an aspiring counter at one time (and maybe still) he may read the board. He has yet to do me any harm that I am aware of and at times in the past has even been a plus offering decent penetration (by AC standards) and not anticipating my play, knowing that I may diviate from BS at certain counts, unlike other dealers who rush by your A8 vs 5 assuming that you want to stand. I remember one occasion when the count was very cose to +3 (hi-lo), he had an ace up and offered insurance. He offered a second time, then looked right at me and said no one wants to take insurance. The count was just below my insurance threshold, so I said close but no. I know he was telling me that he thought the count warranted insurance. He didn't have a BJ by the way.

I wouldn't worry about posting the story, as you've already been made, but you'll gain nothing from playing on this guy's shift. At least avoid his pit, because this guy is likely to at least let a comment or two slip to a boss at some point, even if he doesn't necessarily mean much harm. I disagree about threatening to tell your host, as it won't solve the original problem and will only take a potentially hostile casino employee and turn him into a definitely hostile one. As with other issues concerning casino comportment, my opinion is that you should always look at it in terms of what you stand to gain, and at what risk. Unless this guy is giving you 85%+ pen, drop his shift/pit.

That is the one thing that really pisses me off, any kind of morality lecture from casino personnel.
