Funny moment at the table — dealer thought I was cheating because I hit 12 vs 2

Had a funny experience last weekend that I thought you guys might appreciate. I was at a $15 table, count was slightly negative, and I had a 12 against the dealer's 2. Basic strategy says hit, so I did. The dealer actually paused and said 'You know most people stand on that, right?'
I just shrugged and said 'I had a feeling.' The pit boss came over and watched for a few hands but eventually wandered off. I wasn't even counting aggressively — just playing basic strategy! It's kind of wild how even correct basic strategy plays can draw attention if they're not what the average ploppy does.
Anyone else have moments where just playing correctly got you unwanted attention? How do you handle it without making things worse?

Haha that's great. I've had similar things happen — hitting 12 vs 2 or 3 always gets looks from other players too. They act like you just insulted their mother or something.
The funny thing is half the dealers don't even know basic strategy themselves. I had one tell me I should always split 10s because 'you could get two 21s.' I just nodded and kept playing my way.
Honestly the pit boss coming over for hitting 12 vs 2 is kind of ridiculous. If you were actually cheating you'd be doing something a lot more obvious than making a correct basic strategy play lol.
