Gas Prices Reducing Play?

Is the price of gas reducing the frequency of your trips to the casino? It's 200 miles round trip for me and the cost is becoming meaningful.

My round trip is 660 miles, and yes, I feel it. The days are gone when I could go to the casino and back for just a few bucks. Ten years ago fuel was reasonable and my Honda got 30 mpg.

It's getting to be more of an issue, obviously, but it seems the casinos are compensating with slightly better just-for-showing-up offers.

yourself and OP might as well buy flights to vegas! they're usually pretty cheap at less than 200 roundtrip if you fly mid-week.

Just today, I figured I needed 48 dollars in gas to goto foxwoods, but they were only offering me 40 dollars in free stuff.

I usually tend to ignore it since they always offer chip racks full of money throughout the casino, so the only thing that stopped me tonight was the fact they had no more rooms

I don't know where you are flying from, but I am pricing an east coast trip right now for summer, and prices are more than double what they were last year when I went east. They claim it is increase in fuel prices, but I suspect they were just itching to raise prices and are using anything to justify. The return part of my trip is heading back to Vegas is in late July, which is traditionally a slow time in Vegas and decent airline bargains, but I see no such evidence of that so far.

As for regular travel expenses, my closest casino is about 100 feet away. :laugh: It is a small place that I don't play though. The nearest that I occasional play and sometimes eat at is a good 200 to 250 ft away and 30 more within half a mile radius. When I decided to move to vegas, I wanted to cut down the time and expense of my travel time, as it was about an 80 minute trip by train for me back east. Of course I didn't antiicipate fuel costs skyrocketing, but it has worked out as an extra blessing for me. I don't envy you guys that skyrocketing expenses are cutting into your profit margins. :sad:

Gas prices haven't really hurt me as I take a leisurely ride via bus to AC each time and they actually PAY me to go there The free meals are just icing on the cake.

it's becoming an issue far as i'm concerned. it's not just the cost of gas, but the 'ancillary' effects in the casino's associated with the cost of gas and a weak economy that seems to be a drag on advantage opportunities.
i'm not seeing the positive opportunities at my local joints that automonk is fortunate enough to find in the joints he frequents.
but yeah the cost of gas, it's a negative ev factor in the same sort of sense as over tipping can be, or any other costs associated with trips to casinos.
it's to the point for me, that i'm considering consolidating trips to my local joints with other trips i might normally make such as shopping for groceries, entertainment or what have you.

I'm not as fortunate as Kewljason but I've probably got one of the smaller commutes to my favorite haunt so the prices won't affect me as far as AP playing goes.

OTOH, since I drive roughly 20000 miles a year for work, THAT will definitely be felt in the pocketbook.

I trade my Accord for Fit. Highway mileage is 40 miles/gallon compared to 25 miles/gallon. Plus, I can go buy a 40" Plasma TV and put it on the trunk. Accord can't do that.

I take distance into account when planning a jaunt out to ply my trade. Most of the stores are equidistance from where I live with one 50miles more. If I go for a day trip I can frequent a couple different ones but one I prefer to stay overnite since my better half can't stand the road trip out there. I can't stand buses they make me sick. Air travel has jumped so much it caused me not to partake in the bj tourney in LV next month. Even with free rooms the cost nullified the savings.

I'm just a blue collar guy and I have held off on a trip driving from Tucson to Vegas this year; not entirely due to gasoline prices, but maybe somewhat.

Sometimes casinos will comp you gas cards. Especially if the casino happens to own or have deals with nearby stations, which they do where I live!

I hear that. Try driving ~120k miles a year for a living. All diesel too. a fill-up for me is about $750-800 and lasts maybe 2 days. Though I make serious money and am able to handle it, profit is still better than expense, it sure hurts to see that money go on a day to day basis. Thankfully my actual store visits are hence "paid for" because I only deviate a max of 100 miles off route to visit a store. the perils of a truck driver lol

The gas prices are really started to cut into my bankroll. I'm finding it harder and harder to cover my expenses. The store where i love to play is over 200 mile round trip.
