Headed to the local casino on a recon mission

Well, the time has come. I'm goin' in...

After several months of training and educating myself on BS and counting I am going to make my first trip to one of the local casinos. I am taking 200 bucks and planning on losing it all Mainly this is a visit to learn how they do things at this particular casino since I have never been there. That way I can practice using their specific rules.

I will follow up with a complete report....

Any last minute advice from the veterans of live casino Blackjack?

Advise

Usually worth what you pay for it (advise that is) but I think this is pretty safe:

PLAY YOUR OWN GAME. Do not let the advise from dealers and other players influence you as long as you know and are following your strategy.

If you get down a little, don't make the mistake of "chasing your money" by making big bets that are not backed up with the confidence of a good true count!

If you get on a streak where it just seems like you aren't pulling your share of wins, find another table. It may not help any and probably won't, but it should make you feel better....there! That's my one concession to Voodoo Blackjack!

Thanks! I think that one of the most important things that I have learned since I started this venture was that I would do just that...not anymore!

Not having spent much time at a real live table I have not experienced much of the distraction of having other people offer their advice. Should be interesting.

In my limited time at the BJ tables, I have experienced this. Even when I followed Basic Strategy, I would get the evil eye sometimes from other players; especially if they go bust because I supposedly took their low card. But, I do sometimes get good advice from some friendly players and they have helped me out.

Advise

I mentioned that (about not letting advise from others at the table influence you overly) because it seems to happen all the time. So many who play occasionally, think that they know all there is to know about the game and will blame their losses on anyone they can to avoid taking responsibility for their own errors. I play from the last position at the table very often and that in itself draws a lot of scrutiny from the other players because you happen to be the last to play before the dealer. You'll be dealt a stiff hand against a dealer face quite often. Personally, I always hit those hands and often will bust and the dealer will turn a low card and would have busted had I not taken a hit. I just hunch my shoulders and ignore the barrage of complaints and continue with my game. As much as I've played, I've yet to develop a precognisience of the value of the next card in the shoe nor that of the dealers hole card. Until that evolution of forethought enhances my mental capabilities, I'll continue to follow the path of best probabilities....it doesn't work all the time <grin>.
