hi - low true count?

Hello all, ive been playing blackjack for the last year or so for a bit of fun, but decided to tip the odds in my favour and give the Hi-Lo system ago.

But my question is: How do i get to the true count on a multi deck shoe? The casino i play at uses a 6 deck shoe. So if there is 5 decks left in the shoe and the count is +5 does that make the true count 0?

Thanks

You just divide the number of decks left to be delt by the running count to get the true count. So if there are 5 decks left and the running count is +5 you go 5/5=1 so the true count is +1.

Thanks for the reply.

What do people do if there is say 3 decks left in the shoe and the count is +5? Would you just say true count is +1?

True count = running count over # decks remaining.

runnung count = 5
# decks remaining = 3

True count = 5/3 = 1.667 ~ 1 (truncated)
True count = 5/3 = 1.667 ~ 2 (rounded, and not recommended)

It depends, you can round the true count either up or down if you want to, or you can floor the true count to the fully reached true count(ex: +1.7 would still be +1) which in my opinon is better than rounding.

You should floor because the indices are calculated by flooring. (Right?)

yes, if I read what your saying right. You should not use the index unless the true count is fully achieved.
