Hit on 16

Ok, at my latest BJ Casino excursion I was a little rusty on BS and made a dumb move at a low stakes table. After apologizing to the group, an extremely muscular man, who was in my opinion very anebriated, with a large amount of tattoos, told me if I needed help I could always ask. At one point after I hit on 16vs Dealer 10 or Ace, I forget(the basic strategy chart on this site for the rules at my Casino say that I should hit) he begins lecturing me that he "Won't get on my ass about it, but every mistake that you make f@#$s up the deck." The count was in the negatives, so I can't see how I was wrong. However, being much younger and usually more ignorant than most other adults, I kept my mouth shut, especially since he was hovering around 275 pounds and looked tough. Any suggestions?

P.S. The casino was crowded and I did not feel threatened by him, but just did not want to get into any sort of confrontation.

Hit 16

Forget card countling for a minute. If you have 16 vs dealer 10/A you are looking at a loser more times than not. In order, the best thing to do is 1. Surrender 2. Hit 3. Stay. Out of 100 hands, you will win 1 more by hitting than staying. You should be 2 more ahead if you surrender. Obviously, if you are a counter, you should do what is didtated by the count. If you are not a counter, and you have 4's and 5's in your hand or on the board, stay.
