Hotel/Comp Cover

Hello everyone, been lurking for over a year now and love the site. Everyone here has helped me more than you can imagine.

What I want to ask is regarding cover at a place where you're receiving many comps and it is expected that you play for a few hours during your stay. I've been counting and increasing my skills for a couple years now, but I'm only now getting into the comp side of the game. I'm reading Comp City, but that doesn't deal too much from a counter's perspective.

Besides a good relationship and interaction with the pit as well as a more cautious bet spread, what else can I do to maintain decent cover at a place I may play once every couple months, but can really use the room/comps?

I don't want to give up too much of my edge at the same time, but I'm sure there's a few more little things I can do

Thanks in advance for any help

Play video poker, or if the place has days that offersslot multipliers, playonly on those days.
I'm over 50, and many casinos in Vegas 5X-8X points on different days. Orleans, as an example offers 8X points on Weds.so churning $300 thru a slot on a Weds. is the same as churning $2400 any other day.

All APs walk that fine line you're refering to. Shad gave you a good answer. Just make sure it's "playable" video poker.
Many times, the points multipliers make the difference there.
If you insist on playing only bj, you'll need good perception of just how far you can push the envelope. Lot's of variables involved there (different shift managers, their moods, amount of pressure they're getting to weed out APs, etc.)
If too many concessions are made you lose your "game value"

Comp City is dated, but remains mostly a good source.

Basically, you want to play with a modest spread good enough to win a few bucks without concerning the surveillance cameras. Depending on rules & penetration I suggest a shoe game with a spread equal to the number of decks offered.
Played for green this almost always suffices if playing at minimum 3 or 4 hrs. daily.

Comp City concerns itself mostly with increasing your "average bet" while decreasing your actual time at the tables. As you know how to play with an advantage, the latter should not be much of a concern. The former you may choose to ignore as well.

Just make sure that you use your player's card and are always being rated when you play.

Thanks for the input. I realize pretty much all AP's have to walk this fine line, but it's my 1st time really needing to mask my play for comp purposes.

I only have rudimentary poker skills but will learn more to try and at least diversify my casino play for cover.

I also like the idea of keeping your bet spread to the number of decks at the table. I was having a hard time trying to find the right balance of playing a more passive game while not giving up too much of my small advantage.

I appreciate the help
