How is everyone else's year going so far?

As we move onto the second half of 2011, I was wondering how everybody's years are going so far?

There have been 28 weekends this year so far, of which I've played 16 of them. I have had 9 losing trips and 7 winning trips. Right now I'm under EV, averaging a winrate of about 2/3 a unit per hour .

I definitely know that I am still inside the turmoil of variance, but it doesn't make it any easier to stomach psychologically when I am definitely under my simulated EV. I peaked around the middle of March and have been steadily decreasing my profit since then.

2010 (my first year of counting) treated me much better. 2011 is a fickle mistress and if I do say so myself being kind of a bitch ;).

Going great, been to Vegas 4 times this year with multiple runs to local stores. Couple losing sessions but pulled out at the end of trip. Getting better and better, well over 5 figures so far

Grinded a good old $0.00 to $2,700 since June; trying to build up a substantial bankroll >_<
And I thought I had BR issues! How the hell do you count with a BR of $0.00?

He must have found a quarter on the floor like newbctr and parlayed that into millions.

This year is going quite well. I've made more playing Blackjack the last 2 and a half months than I have at my place of employment.

Over the end of '09 and much of '10, I had built a reasonable BR, and I had moved into somewhat higher unit size. Then January '11 hit, and my household suffered a substantial economic meltdown (no relation to BJ play), so there went my carefully-built BR, drained into household support, digging out of that hole. No BJ for the duration.

It's been 6 months, the household has stabilized, and I'm starting over. Just 10 days ago, I allowed myself to pull a small amount into a new BJ BR and have been to several area casinos. Necessarily, I'm starting back at the very bottom end of red-chipping, but that's OK: I'm up close to 90 units already, over the course of a total of about 14 hours of play.

With a month or three of positive performance, I'll begin to debate with myself increasing my unit size. No rush; happy to start slowly and build conservatively. Frankly, I'm just glad to be back in the game.

What's disturbing me are 2 things, both internal/psychological: Emotional trouble watching variance occur (I've actually won close to 150 units, but along the way lost 60; +90 is net-to-date), and regaining my nerve to push out larger bets on splits and doubles.

The up side is that starting over means I still have some good habits I gained a year-plus ago, most notably being the keeping of meticulous records. I'll be happier when I finish regaining a solid sense of Knowing When To Leave, which is currently running a bit ragged (see "lost 60" above). It's all coming back, and I wasn't gone that long anyway...

Had a fantastic first half of year. Was with in a stones throw of my total win for all of 2010, and set new all time highes many days. Like plainplayer, I did experience quite a bit of variance that I am still learning to deal with. 9 huge swing days to be exact. Luckily they were favorable by a 2-1 ratio and in reality much larger than that as the biggest wins were much larger than the biggest losses.

Day 1 of the second half (july 1) started off with yet another of these huge swings to the negative side, so I hope that is not a omen for the second half of the year.

Like Mr Chap, I had some motivational problems, which resulted in my total play being down just a bit. March to early may, here in Vegas, every day is 80 degrees and sunny and there are things I would rather do than play blackjack, like hiking and biking in Red Rock canyon or just taking a drive out to the desert.

I'm up about 1,200 max bets so far. Haven't really played all that much. Struggling with motivation.
Doesn't this represent a 7 figure win for you? Very nice!

As for me, I've had very little play. Basically 2 trips. It's been a bit disappointing, but I'm up mid 4 figures after expenses. On the upside, I've learned a lot that will contribute to future earnings.

For a while now, 21. Gotta be able to easily play the locals places. :) Most days it still doesn't move from the parking garage though. I walk/monorail the strip and still will take the bus downtown. It's easier, quicker and cheaper.

There is more than counting at work here. I thought I was doing well with my approx 270 max bets up for the year.

In the hole

Behind for the year. In the red for my career.

Have been in the black on three occasions, only one of which lasted longer than one session - and that lasted two sessions.

Each time I claw my way into near-profitability or actual profitability, the floor opens up with a nice 10-max-bet dumping over 6 hours.

In fairness, my career started this spring, after a few years of sporadically reading one blackjack book, and then another, and many idle hours of counting down a deck when stranded at airports, etc.

Hoping to put in 300 hours this year. I know that I might still be underwater at that time.

It's rough man. When we (my team) experience swings they're technically huge at these micro-stakes. Have had 13 sessions, only losing 4 of which. And at one we nearly doubled the roll

I started by getting spotted at a nickel table with 20 units, so afterwards we've only played with the profits and then instituted a replenishable BR.

Hangin in There

Trying to strengthen a bankroll to self-sustainability, but hit a couple speed bumps in May/June. That's life, though, and July has started out in a positive direction again.

Not doing too bad myself. Around 1000 hrs of play. 70%+ session win rate. Max session win +215 units (an outlier, usually my max wins are clustered around +70 to +100). Max session loss -60 units.

Primarily count, but mix in other AP stuff.

I have problems with motivation too, but then again I always do. OK some people would just call me lazy

Something is not adding up here. Your primarily counting, have 1000 hours played so far this year (40+ hours a week??!!!), and you've never had a session loss over 60 units? So if your a $5 unit player you've never lost more than $300 in one session over a 1000 hour sample? Pretty sure this is not possible...
