How many hours/hands do you try to get in on one trip? Seems like with Wonging in at +1 and out at -1, I'm lucky if I get 100 hands in in one trip! One store that I go to uses cards with small print, so backcounting from a distance is impossible. I feel vulnerable just standing behind table after table waiting for a +1!

Don't look at the index number, look at the pips. pips are much easier to see from a distance.

By "small print," I'm assuming he means jumbos, which makes it very difficult to read pips from a distance.

you mean like Bicycle brand Jumbos? I've never seen something like that in a casino. even if they did, the pips might be smaller, but then the index numbers would be much bigger, making it not hard to read at all.
that's not so good I guess. I suppose this is one of the drawbacks of back counting! Although variance is reduced while back counting, it will take longer to get to a level that could be considered "long term".

Not exactly. If you watch a shoe from the shuffle and observe 30 rounds before stepping and and playing 15 before the count drops, and then you step away while observing 2 more rounds, it's the same as playing 47 rounds—not 15. You're just betting 0 units during the 32 hands where you had no edge.

With 4 players you will see about 100 hands an hour and play about 25. At a full table it slows to about 50 and with 1 player you see about 200.

You are playing fewer hands, but those hands are quality hands.
While you can do that, I think is the best move.
The problem is crowded tables.
You wait to the positive shoe and, if the table is crowded you just play a couple of hands before the count drops.
Best setting is when you can back count and there are only two or three players.
All this regardless heat.
