How NOT to get targeted and robbed?

How would you guys minimize the risk of getting robbed? Thou shall NOT flash too much of chips or what? It seems that robbers have targeted gamblers with lotsa of chips displayed and flashed at the tables. A Taj bj player won $10,000, got followed into the parking deck, and got beaten up & robbed of all his winnings. A Trump Plaza winner won $7,000, got followed into a hotel elevator, and got roughed up & mugged of his winnings. In his final good-bye-post, Jason mentioned that he got followed back near his condo and got his bankroll robbed by a gunman. Before we become a victim like Jason or other winners, what can we do? Arm ourselves to the teeth:mad:?

1. Don't post your M.O. on an online forum.
2. If the casino has an outdoor lot, park there.
3. Always park near an elevator in the parking garage, even if it means going up several more levels.
4. If you have a LOT of money, ask security to escort you to your car. Tip the guy.
5. If you think you're being followed, walk around the casino, making a few sudden turn-arounds.
6. If you're playing in a HL pit and someone shady is watching the game, ask the PB to escort them out - you don't feel comfortable with so-and-so watching you.


One time at Trump Plaza, I was concerned someone was following me. I went down the escalator, as if I was going out to the BW, then turned right around and went back up.

I'm sorry, but I can't resist :laugh::laugh::laugh:--- It's like a cat escorts a mouse back to his wheels. Security guards are known for roughing up APs, such as in the case of Trump Marina Casino vs James Grosjean's Pardner :grin:. That security guard tackled, handcuffed, and backroomed him. So, I don't think APs will like to tip a guard for a trip to his wheels with his license plate which reads: "James Grosjean II" ;). No offense, but thanks for your reply. You make me smile from ear to ear, and the guy next to me at the station thinks I'm gone nut ;) I personally won't do it, but other out-of-town-lady APs may. Good day.

7. Move quickly and spontaneously. Robbers have low IQ's and cannot adjust their plans as quickly as we can change ours. That is our biggest advantage, not only against the undesirables around town but against the casinos as well. If you are quick by the time the perp figures out what he is going to have to do to corner you, you will already be at your destination.

8. Robbers cannot afford to even occasionally lose fights with their victims so fight back. You are not going to make him angry and more brutal with him because you hit him back, he already hates you. Once he thinks he might possibly not win the fight, he will flee.

9. Once you are done playing, get out of town. No hanging around in bars and tourist attractions after people have seen you playing and cashing out for large sums.

Robbery prevention

Glad I made your day. My advice obviously was only intended for places in which your play is not suspect.
Another option is to ask the cage for a check when you cash out. The down side is that it could take a while.
Thinking about this reminds me of a story I heard about a horse player who, years ago, hit a huge Pick Six at the track. After creating a scene that called a lot of attention to himself, he declined to take his winnings in a check. On his way home, while he was stopped at a red light, someone jumped out of a car stopped behind his, shot him dead, and ran off with the cash. Don't know if the story's true or not, but it's something to think about.

I was going to my room at the casino hotel and a guy who seemed to be lurking in the elevator hall jump in my elevator at the last minute. He did not press a button and I had already pressed my button. I quickly pressed the door open button and got off. I told the security guard what had happened and the floor I was going to. He had security check my floor for the guy. In the meantime, I played VP for an hour or so before I returned to the elevator and proceeded to my room. I felt I had dodged a bullet. BTW, I don't know what a robber looks like, but this guy could easily have been one-- and maybe not-- maybe he was just staying on the same floor. Especially in the wee hours of the morning I am extra careful and maybe a little paranoid.

Huh? Whether or not some security guard walks you to your car or not is irrelevant as to whether they're picking you off or not. If they were going to backroom you (or anything else), they already would have.

Depends on where you're playing and what your AP technique is. When's the last time a major casino back-roomed anyone solely for card counting? I'm not saying it can't happen, but what're the odds? In a stalking situation, I would not hesitate to involve casino security in any major casino.

I'm not sure it matters, really. If you were that dangerous, and they knew it, they'd have grabbed you already, wouldn't they? Or if they were just going to back you off, would they benefit from the slight delay getting to your car?

I suppose there could be a case where they're reviewing footage, and finally figure out the play when security is walking out with you. But I can't imagine that's very likely.

There's always valet, too.

(All of this does slow you down, so it's probably best to reserve it for the occasional big win.)

I'm guessing if you're in real danger of back rooming, you're either suspected of cheating or you're playing in smaller store or Indian casino, not to disparage Indian casinos, but people here have written some pretty bad indictments in their regard.

Maybe off topic, but this is also how you defend against Cougar (the animal) attacks.

Great advice AM. I hesitated from giving it because I can take care of myself but the fact is these guys are predators and as such they look for easy prey. Fighting back will have them reevaluate whether or not you are easy prey. Your attitude is important as well. A confident walk and an abrasive attitude shows you can take care of yourself and that you are a fighter. Often in the open city if someone asks you what time it is and you say get lost or even I don't know you get a pass but the guy that tells them the time gets robbed as he has shown himself to be cooperative rather than abrasive. As much as they want a big score they want their robbery to go smoothly.

Yeah, I remember cougars. But I doubt many of them remember me. My cougars wore poodle skirts.

That scene used to be a lot better. There was a time when if a girl was feeling a little down, she would get dressed up and go out to the bars to find someone to make her feel pretty. Then they invented Prozac.

Since the late sixties it has been dismaying how many fine looking women wind up with the best supplier of their favorite controlled substance. Used to be the best dancer, or the best looking, or the biggest spender, or the best personality. Oh, well, I didn't do too well then, either. :eek: But the best supplier! Ugh! Culture shock! :eek:
