Did you play those early surrender tables back then? If so we may have crossed paths. Not only was early surrender offered, it was a 4 deck game with double after split, double on any 2 cards and it was deeply dealt. I put in a lot of hours on that game.

It was thought by some people that it was a mistake by the casino to offer early surrender. The thinking was that they wanted to offer surrender and didn't research the difference between early and late. It was soon gotten rid of and I'm pretty sure it was the CCC that nixed it.
They never meant to offer early surrender. But the CCC insisted that the dealer not take a hole card in order to better prevent any kind of cheating or collusion with players. And so, they couldn't figure out how to do that and to offer regular (late) surrender. Of course, that IS possible. So, players got the tremendous extra advantage of early surrender, which gave the BS player an edge off the top!

Ah, the good ol' days!

You guys played with an edge starting with only BS...that isn't even fair compared to today's games lol. I don't usually wish I was older...but for this I do lol.

Funny!

I didn't play in the ES era, but did play when H17 games were almost unheard of. Ah, the good old days...

I was lucky enough to play 1x in AC before they quit. But back then, played for comps. Didn't really know it was a game in our favor just with BS. Still not sure with the multi decks. But Don would know. What I also miss was the difference between downtown Vegas and "Strip" rules............we didn't know we had it so good. Single deck was in our favor if they allowed RSA; only Downtown had H17. Strip liked to say their rules were better. Man have games changed and man, did I not know how good I had it back then. And shuffle tracking; dealer tells without the little indicator for BJ. It was a lot easier and I didn't even comprehend all the nuances. I just knew to cut a high count part of the cards/deck into play when I could track. But to go to Vegas or A/C was a trip then, for us from middle of country. I only usually traveled and played when a golf tournament was involved.

The old saying goes, 'if I only knew then; what I know now......" LOL

The BS edge was almost 0.2% off the top.

Ugg yeah, way to rub it in Don! Ha just kidding, but man those days must have been so much fun.
For a guy like you with such math aptitude, it must have been amusing for you. Did you travel a lot back then? Or just take money out of Vegas and the East Coast mostly?
Today's games are playable, but such a grind. If you are starting red and a tiny bankroll today...I don't think 99% of people have a clue what they are in for.

Way back when there were only two gaming cities to play. Don, traveled back and forth by horse and buggy. ;)
When he showed up to play he was loaded for bear, as he had two teams one in front of the carriage and five guys sitting in the back, took on a whole new concept to team play.:)

LOL! In the '70s and '80s, I did, in fact, spend most of my time between the two meccas, Las Vegas and A.C. I put in an extraordinary number of hours in both venues. They were, quite simply, the very best games and conditions on the planet. There will never again be that kind of atmosphere anywhere. I used to spend countless hours playing the "main line" Caesars Palace shoe game, along with incredibly lucrative DD games at Riviera and Maxim. I LIVED there! And, of course, you just walked up and down the Boardwalk, making the "paper route," from one candy store to the other. Early surrender was like stealing.

We also took family trips, around school vacations, to the Caribbean, and we loved Puerto Rico and the Bahamas and kept going back over and over again.

I'm sorry to say that these days are gone forever, but the memories remain, and they never cease to give me pleasure as I reminisce. So thanks for indulging me.
