I Love Standard Deviation!

I just thought i should post this because my previous thread seems to have a lot of attention. After losing more than 3g in a previous session i decided to bite the bullet and keep playing. Hoping that over the next 10 sessions or so i could win back my huge loss. Friday night i went and played at a local DD game and i left up $400 for a short one hour session. Yesterday I went to a casino that was a 2.5 hour drive to try there double deck game with good rules. Only to find that the penetration sucked... Maybe 50%? I played for 1/2 hour and left when i was up $400. I decided to hit up Another casino since it was on my way back home, and my last session was so short. My plan was to walk in with $1000 and lose it all or double it. I was down about 800 right off the bat feeling pretty crappy since i just wiped out my two previous meger winnings. Then it happened, i went on the craziest winning streak of my life. Everything went my way. I split aces 4x with top bet out and won every hand, I purchased insurance maybe 6-7 times with max bet and ended up winning all, but maybe one or two. My splits were golden I think i won everything i split. So after 6 hours of playing I left up $4,100. So my total profit for the weekend was $4900 and i'm back in the black! Rest assured the pendulum does swing both ways!! I just wanted to post this for all of you out there who are thinking of quiting after taking a big hit. I know i was extraordinarilly lucky, but the opposite happened to me last tuesday. You wont see anymore whiney posts from me about how much i lost.

My impression is that Cass is over-betting. Lets see if he loves StDv when the BR massively tanks.

What you love you respect - respect StDv, and cultivate a healthy indifference towards it while NOT over-betting. That way both big wins and big losses are seen in a compassionate perspective. zg

hello,
i learned quite some time ago (after having read one of your posts) the importance of not overbetting and have set up my betting as close to optimun as my understanding takes me. i've been trying to cultivate a healthy indifference to fluctuation both negative and positive with out much success. you say look from a compassionate perspective, i've been trying for a dispassionate perspective. am i missing something here?

best regards,

I was being somewhat sarcastic about loving StDv. My BR is 10,000, and my top bet is $200 or 2%. I have been using a 1-8 spread for four deck shoes and also DD games, but im going to drop to a 1-6 spread ($150 top bet)on the 2 deck shoes.

I know the recommendation would be no more than 1% max bet. I guess that's the price im willing to pay to play greens.... A higher Ror... Btw- I've never won/lost more than $1300 per session. So i dont know what has been going on this last week.

Well that's not much at all. I guess you must have a smaller car. Seems like everyone and their grandmother these days drives a big giant SUV with "Support our Troops" stickers stuck on both sides of the back.
